Messages From Beyond

I just had a great idea for a new section of my website. It would consist of anecdotal accounts of “messages from beyond”. This would include dreams, alien abductions, visions of God, Jesus, dead relatives, VALIS, whatever. I would put out a few classified ads in different places asking for people to submit their stories. Then I would publish them into their own specially designed section of my site, so that they could be easily cross-referenced and analyzed in different kinds of clusters.

The idea was inspired by all the research and thinking I’ve been doing about Twin Peaks. In the series, one of the major elements of it is that Special Agent Dale Cooper receives messages from a variety of seemingly mystical sources. He then tells other characters about it, and together they sort of unravel it all. And I realized how exciting and interesting it is to talk to other people about this stuff and collectively share and try to figure out the weird messages we sometimes receive. Maybe by putting them all together, we’d be able to unlock secrets none of us would be able to see on our own.

I will work on this idea and hopefully have the prototype ready to go by the end of this week. If anybody knows good online or offline sources where we could collect accounts like this, drop them into the comments below.

I’m glad you’re gonna add a section like that because I was going to recommend adding a Dream Category to the Forum before I checked the site today.

Well, this won’t be specifically for dreams, but I can’t see why that wouldn’t be included. I think the main thing that each of the visions added to this new site section will have in common is that there is some kind of “message” component. It’s not just that something happened or that they saw something, but that some particular thing was being communicated. I’ll probably have to clarify that intention more though when I ask people for contributions.

maybe you could post some examples on the side section to get the ball rolling, like pkd and puharich, et al.

Yeah that’s a great point. Hell, even mentioning Twin Peaks ought to really be a step in the right direction. I could see this making a big splash if I put it together and market it in the right way.

Don’t gno if this is quite what you have in mind, but it’s an archive of scientists’ transcendental experiences maintained by Charles Tart, of altered-states of consciousness research fame.
