Fighting Sea Monsters

This morning I dreamt that I was on some kind of group of barrier islands with a bunch of people. There may have been a competition of some kind that I was taking part in. I forget the specifics. But at one point me and this guy I with stole these kids bikes and rode down to the outermost tip of the last island.

We got off the bikes and waded out into the water. All of a sudden, these little sea-monster things start shooting their heads up out of the water, like these creepy eel type things. And the way they attack is they let out this horrible scream which is supposed to make you faint, and then they eat you once you pass out. I knew that the name of this weird species of monsters was called “gossips” but people also called them “rumors” since that’s sort of a synomym. But I didn’t pass out of anything. Me and this guy I was with fought our way past them until the leader of these things reared up out of the water, this huge slithery sea serpent thing. It lunged at us, and we pulled out pocket knives and just started hacking away at like crazy.

Eventually we got the better of it. Later in the dream, I was back with everyone else who was only just getting to the point in the competition where they were to fight the gossips. We went down there with them to help. But this time instead of the real monster (which the two of us had fought alone), the monster was just this big metal cutout, which we had to stab and cut into pieces. Later on it was just a drawing on tracing paper. But nobody else noticed, so I continued hacking away at it until it was “dead”. This time I had a knife in each hand.

Once we were done, the crowd assembled behind us on the beach started cheering. And the decision was made that the flesh of the monster would be cut up and cooked by the “military” so that everybody there could partake of it.

Nice. What’s with these monster dreams and the sea?

Oh, and eating of a dead “monster” (or alien), is something that Credo Mutwa, the Zulu Shaman talks about. He says that whenever an african tribe finds (or found) the body of a dead alien (”greys” and “reptillians”), the shamans would actually eat certain parts of it, a communion-like ritual, that could turn lethal. Very interesting…

Also, Tim, check out (if you haven’t already) my post in Myth and Symbol about Cthulhu and the Iron Giant. Your input, especially after a similar sea “monster” dream, would be appreciated.

do you remember in ‘the princess bride’ when the princess bride jumped out of her captors’ ship and the eels in the water kind made a shrill shrieking sound?
