Funny, the occult seemed to be doing fine for centuries before ufology was even invented.

Mark, You seem very quick to judge. May I suggest that if you really want to understand evil you need look no further than the depths of your own heart. Cut off the root of misunderstanding within yourself first, then you will see clearly how to help others.

Evil? What is evil? For that matter, what is good?

NOTHING.

They’re words to convey how we feel towards something, thus an opinion. No “thing” can be in the state of an “opinion”, hence no “thing” is good or evil. It may feel good or evil, but those words are mere projections of one’s personal opinion onto a “thing”. Now, something may be greedy or selfish or murderous (etc.), and hence those more specific states of being may lead you to label something “evil”; it may influence your opinion to use a word that is too vague to have much usefulness, but nothing IS evil.

As for UFOlogy and the occult (or for that matter, Christianity and the Occult), the Occult is far older than either ufology or christianity (and much, much older than xtianity). If you break the word down, occult merely means “the hidden”, or the unknown. As long as there are still secrets in the world, as long as we aren’t omnicient, the occult will always persist because there will always be something “hidden” from us.

Well that’s certainly an interesting viewpoint, but it does little to alleviate my current situation, Mark. Nor does it seem to recognize that there are many ways in which one can “devote oneself to the Lord,” not all of which need to make sense to anybody but the person doing the devoting.

Tim, I don’t know man… I’m almost thinking you wouldn’t have to worry about money and stuff so much, especially with your move to seattle, if you gave up this Occult nonsense and devoted yourself to the lord. And I’m not suggesting selling out to some fake religious cult like mormonism or something, but to try and find a true knowledge and seeking of Jesus Christ… Of course I leave that choice up to you, but it’s something to consider. I mean seriously, there is only so far you can with the Occult before you inevitably find out that it’s nothing but a dead end. I think you yourself even strongly hinted at that with your article on “Is Ufology Dead?” If you think about it, if Ufology dies then the Occult pretty much dies, because the Occult is always looking for that ‘holy grail’ type of negative allurement to lead people away from the light. Ufos, aliens, greys, seemed to perform that function perfectly, but like you just recently suggested, those fads are starting to die… In the end there is only one of two sides you can be on and that choice is ultimately yours. Fancy linguistics, fake mensa jargon aside, that choice will still ultimately come, and it’s the same choice that everyone on this planet will face.
