the xians would probably *like* that about him . . . .

You can use that to your advantage. Use the pro-life schtick to sucker them into reading it. "Secret Grey Robed Christians Pro-Life Movement" or some such novel, would probably work to get them involved.

I think you'd have to do it Dan-Brown style. There's a whole mysterious section of the Exegesis that no one's ever seen. There's a bit of it that we can make reference to. If we had a literature professor, who travels to california to see if he can make sense of PKD's reference to "Grey Robed Christians..."

i think this idea is rad. the thing is, i don't think they'd find any major challenges to christian thought in pkd unless we somehow managed to get pkd into popular culture to the extent that the da vinci code is. like, if oprah put 'scanner' onto her book club when the movie comes out.

the xians latched onto dan brown because he's uber-popular. i think pkd's probably a little too obscure for them as he currently stands. then there's the issue of his estate, which has kind of a death-grip on his stuff, his name, his title, etc. plus, we'd also have to be careful of what we wished for, 'cause there's some dirt out there on PKD-- for instance, was virulently pro-life. he even wrote a story about a future dystopia in which parents were 'aborting' their children up to the age of thirteen. the xians would probably *like* that about him . . . .

Sparkwidget:

didn’t I propose goading Jack Chick into attacking Gnosticism last year?

You certainly did. I remember it. I guess my thing with Philip K. Dick would be on a different scale, and would mainly revolve around the notion that Dick is such a mindfuck that if you tangle with him in any way, you get "laid" so to speak.

Joe Chip:

if somone wrote an easily digestible novel called “the VALIS code” in which a couple of people take a romp through the territory of the ancient roman empire uncovering dodgy historical “facts” about archontic conspiracy and a secretive christian “aramchek” resistance movement, as well as iconographic evidence of an ancient satellite communicating with the gnostics via pink beams (and it was as cleverly written and suspenseful as the da vinci code)… then we’d be on the brink of some kind of spiritual revolution. maybe.

I THINK YOU'RE ON TO SOMETHING. It's like, if we used PKD as the "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and then distilled it down via a super-simple formula in a tasty pop format. Blam!

those boys aren`t going to go for such simple subterfuge.............don`t forget that robetson plays on a number of different levels. he threatened chavez for g.w.b. while wearing his mad fundy hat. you need to start at the grass roots level with people stupid enough to charge at red capes. presbyterian sunday school teachers would be my suggestion. it would need door-to-door type campaignng though. like the mormons. jack chick might be a good target because he`s a media whore, he might get blindsided by some well crafted approach.........a comic book making fun of his comic books.......hmmmmmm........using r.crumb style...........with pkd doing the mr.natural as an editorial theme weaving through the story boards. hell, you could invite the freak brothers and fritz the cat too.
smoking bible pages to see if you get high..................................................

I questioned my sanity and wondered if PKD had transferred his “madness” to me.

That's the way I felt after I finished the Exegesis... what Phil was trying to get at led him on a kind of benzine feedback loop, IMO- and after reading his notes the "horizontal hold of my reasoning "would keep slipping.

yeah! Slip a copy under the door of Pat Robertson's stall...

I honsetly don;t think the folks are intelligent and well-red enough to even follow a PKD book...I can see brains exploding even now!
When I read Valis, I understood for the first time that mental states are transferrable through reading/writing. I was left in an altered state for several days; I questioned my sanity and wondered if PKD had transferred his "madness" to me.

that's nuts! i like it. unfortunately i have to wonder if pkd could ever become a pop culture phenomenon on the order of the da vinci code. but you know, if somone wrote an easily digestible novel called "the VALIS code" in which a couple of people take a romp through the territory of the ancient roman empire uncovering dodgy historical "facts" about archontic conspiracy and a secretive christian "aramchek" resistance movement, as well as iconographic evidence of an ancient satellite communicating with the gnostics via pink beams (and it was as cleverly written and suspenseful as the da vinci code)... then we'd be on the brink of some kind of spiritual revolution. maybe.
