March 20 began a new year in the Thelemic calendar. The year of Art, replacing the year of Death, in the cycle of the Emperor.

Also, the penis is a symbol of the Middle Pillar.

Tim-
There is a Manichaean
doctrine called the Three Moments. The
three moments are of time- past, present and the future. The arrow
must hit the target- not a little to the left or right.

In terms of evil we can have the rotten - old evil represented by
Ahriman - and the unripe: young evil represented by Lucifer. Christ lives in the
present, where everything is at its peak.

BTW Maranatha is the mantra used by the Christian Meditation Network

well, although i was certainly kidding about the freud thing, i don't see it as too outlandish to point out that the arrow signifies an eruption of force, similar to the wands you were talkin' about earlier. of course, there are definitely phallic connotations as well-- just look at the odysseus myth you mention. shooting arrows through axeheads-- the arrow is the masculine force, the labyros (axehead) representative of the mother goddess (shaped like a butterfly-- get it?).

of course, there's also a longstanding tradition of zen archery-- the idea is that letting the arrow find its target is more a matter of being within the flow of the tao and "seeing your mind" at the moment of the arrow's release-- hitting the target is only secondary.

I had no idea that Boy Scouts were related to freemasonry, but it makes a lot of sense considering my town is a huge Masonic Hub and every other boy I knew (including myself) was in Scouts at some point or another. What confuses me though is that Scouts in my town had a lot of affiliation with the Protestant/Methodist churches, and I always thought that the Masonic stuff usually stayed away from any church affiliation... But I guess they're not the same thing. I know there are special religious badges though...

I always wondered what happened to kids after they finally got to Eagle Scout Status. Was it just like: "yay, you got to Eagle Scout, good job! Now you can hang a plaque on your wall. Awesome." I guess it's a code of ethics training ground. There's something that I still admire about it, and it probably has to do with the whole "in tune with nature while the rest of the planet is consumerist" vibe.

I just have to say that I quit Boy Scouts within the first year because it started interfering with what I wanted to do. Like not associate with the rest of those embarassing scouts when I wanted to have other types of friends. haha.

of course, it could be a freudian dream about your penis.

Freud-schmeud. I think I remember Jung saying that arrows have to do with intuition, since you sort of let it go and find its target. Whereas the sword is reason, and its more an active process.

As far as myths go, I always liked when Odysseus returned home and shot that arrow through the axeheads and then slayed all the suitors.

You know the Boy Scouts arose out of Freemasonry, right?

I didn't know that, but when I started reading some of that shit linked above, I definitely saw that it is heavily rooted in fraternal order type material.

I probably still have an Arrow of Light badge in a box somewhere.

You know the Boy Scouts arose out of Freemasonry, right?

In a local thrift store, there's a very old Girl Scout field guide that reads like Walt Whitman, it's so mystically nature-oriented.

OOH, I just found this, the narration from an Arrow of Light ceremony from an actual Blue & Gold banquet. I've been to a few of those in my day, so it seems accurate.

I KNEW this was ringing another bell, since you said "Arrow of Light." Arrow of Light was the highest badge achievement you could receive in Cub Scouts. And then you move on to Boy Scouts. It's also only symbol of the Cub Scouts that you keep on your uniform as a Boy Scout. All of your other merit badges fall away, and you get a whole new rank.

Then as I stood there, two men were coming from the east, head first like arrows flying, and between them rose the daybreak star. They came and gave a herb to me and said: "With this on earth you shall undertake anything and do it." It was the daybreak-star herb, the herb of understanding, and they told me to drop it on the earth. I saw it falling far, and when it struck the earth it rooted and grew and flowered, four blossoms on one stem, a blue, a white, a scarlet, and a yellow; and the rays from these streamed upward to the heavens so that all creatures saw it and in no place was there darkness.

You have the most interesting dreams. Last night, I dreamt about being late for class, again....and not having been for like weeks, meaning I wasn't ready for the test. Which makes sense, cause...I'm 26, and I haven't been in college for years.
