Dreams of the Resistance
Maybe I’ve just been reading too much Jerry Rubin and Philip K. Dick lately, but I had a really vivid dream a couple of nights ago which related to a near-futuristic USA and a rebellion (and no, not the Chevrolet kind).
In the dream, I was part of a small band of revolutionaries. I no longer remember what we were doing though, and maybe that’s for the better, so as not to implicate us in Dreamland. In any event though, I would place this timeline as somewhere less than five years in the future. The significant parts that I *do* remember had to do with everybody in the city getting super pissed off over something that had happened. I’d never seen anything like it, and everyone was so angry that we were acting almost with one mind.
Everyone drove their cars out to the edges of the city in every direction and just abandoned them en masse. The idea was to block the roadways off from troop trucks or police vehicles. I’m not sure if it ever happened, but they were also intending to set these vehicles on fire and use them as IED’s when the time came - encircling the city in a ring of fire. Throughout the rest of the city, everyone collected all the pointless products and junk that they’d bought over the years and hurled it out into the streets, until all the neighborhoods were filled with detritus as well (sort of like in the photos of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina). It was done partly for the same reason above: to force police and military to come in on foot, one by one. It was also done as a ritual to rid ourselves of the mental and emotional prisons which had been indoctrinated in us through these products and the things they represented.
I would venture to guess that this dream took place in an earlier part of the same time-line as my one last year where Aliens invaded the USA. And for the revolutionary overtones, I might also connect it to this dream about Thomas Jefferson travelling around in a motorhome. There’s also a really cool Philip K. Dick essay I wrote about a while ago where he talks about “remembering” existing in an alternate universe where the USA had already become a police state. And he asks if other people had memories of that same place. It’s a crazy idea, but who knows? Has anyone else seen this place (whether we call it alternate universe or our future) first-hand - I don’t just mean imagine it, I mean SEEN it? Are we being contacted by whatever contacted Dick himself? If you don’t want to identify yourself publicly about this, email me.
