Strange Rock Signs in Seattle

Just wanted to share one other weird thing that I saw last night. We were driving home when suddenly the van started overheating. A loud hissing was accompanied by a great deal of steam. JK manuevered the van off to a totally random side street, parked, opened the hood, and poured a gallon of water in, and waited.

Off to the right was a rock wall, just a little taller than both of us. Right at eye level, about two or three feet across, we saw the image below on one rock:

Rock Symbols in Seattle Wall

I only had my phone though, so we didn’t get a great picture, but it’s enough to see what’s going on, I think. I have also traced the shapes over in Photoshop and added them to the right above for clarity.

At first glance, it seemed that these shapes were drawn in with chalk on the surface of the rock. But when you run your fingers over it, not only is it not chalky, but sections of it actually seem to be indented into the surface of the rock. That is, the white areas are lower than the gray areas. Now, there were numerous other rocks around, but none featured anything like this. A lot of them did have white striations across them, but they were all fairly consistent. They were longer and much narrower, and they tapered off, rather than ending abruptly like this.

I’m not ready to say that it’s *not* man-made, but if it is, I’m not certain how it could have been made. Perhaps we’ll have to go back and analyze it more closely in the clear light of day…

In any event, the thing I’m most curious about is what the symbols mean, if anything. It seems to be some kind of pictogram, and the shapes are just compelling enough to seem to carry some kind of message. Has anyone seen anything similar to this or are you able to work out what it might mean?

Maybe it’s what Philip K. Dick referred to as a disinhibiting stimulus, designed to loosen mental bonds and unleash pre-existing hidden knowledge within the viewer. If that’s the case, I did have a number of linked dreams last night wherein I started a website called “smclttr.com” or “smlttr”. I have no indication that these dreams were linked to the graffiti pictogram, but offer it as evidence which perhaps will mean something to somebody else. Neither series of letters seems to reveal any useful information on Google.

In any case, it’s a fun thing to ponder - these types of strange everyday mysteries that are hidden all around you. Maybe they are meaningless, or maybe they offer up important secrets to those with eyes to see.

The post you’ve written which has stuck out to me the most since beginning to read your journal is the “Maranatha” one. I believe it may have just been anticipation for my own move to Seattle, to have occurences like that happen in the midst of day to day living, to help break one out of the monotony…

Well, I was at a local shop here the other day and I found a book titled “Maranatha” in the middle of the stacks. Pretty rare too; no other copies found online anywhere. Just goes to show you…

There’s also a Maranatha peanut butter company, I recently discovered.

JP: it is across from Joey’s Grill, I *heart* Sushi etc. on the Fred Hutchinson campus. Forget which street, but just a little ways up.

While Tim was most fascinated by the “pictogram”, I was spending the time being blown away by a slug which was appearing to worship it in the middle of the sidewalk below. It literally sat plopped there with half of its body erect, antennae (feelers) both completely prone and would do a slow bowing dance to something, whatever it was, in front of it. What was in front of it Tim has provided as pictured.

  6. JK Says:

You can find it right here, dead center on the map on the rough hewn rock retaining wall separating the street to the north from the parking lot to the south.

I agree, Any time you see something and can’t explain it, those of us with eyes to see know it’s fairly certain to be supernatural.

[…] Last night I got caught in a bit of a brainstorm about this weird pictogram that JK and I accidentally spotted recently. I was pondering the letters that had appeared to me in a dream that same night as a domain name which I’d purchased and built a website of some kind on. The site name was smlttr.com or something similar. […]
