Didgeridoo Helps Stop Snoring

I actually found mention of this in an ad I found in my Gmail account. This website is trying to sell didgeridoos (an Australian Aboriginal wind instrument) to help treat snoring and sleep apnea.

It seems ridiculous but it also seems to be supported by this science article on ABC Australia:

Kept awake at night by a snoring partner? It might be a good idea to ask them to take up playing the didgeridoo.

New Swiss research has found that playing the didgeridoo can help reduce snoring and the day time sleepiness associated with the syndrome known as obstructive sleep apnoea. […] The researchers say a didgeridoo instructor reported that some of his students had less daytime sleepiness and snoring after practicing the instrument for several months. [… ] The researchers examined 25 patients who suffered from snoring and moderate sleep apnoea to scientifically assess what impact didgeridoo playing would have on them. […] Those who played the instrument over a four-month trial period saw a significant improvement in their daytime sleepiness and apnoea. […] The researchers say training the upper airways through the breathing techniques required to play the didgeridoo was behind the improvement.

Weird, but I guess that does make some sense physiologically. I would also be curious though to look at the lives of the people who participated in this study. Particularly in relation to what kinds of creative and physical outlets they have. Maybe for some of them, playing the didgeridoo released some kind of pent up psychic energy for them on top of whatever more obviously medical effects it had.
