Conspiracy Fiction Grand Opening!

Today I did possibly a grave disservice to seekers of the truth and to humanity in general. I started a website dedicated to Conspiracy Fiction. Wikipedia explains what I mean by that, and was kind enough to give me the term for it:

Particularly since the 1960s, conspiracy theory has been a popular subject of fiction. A common theme in such works is that characters discovering a secretive conspiracy may be unable to tell what is true about the conspiracy, or even what is real: rumors, lies, propaganda, and counter-propaganda build upon one another until what is conspiracy and what is coincidence becomes an unmanageable question.

Because of their dramatic potential, conspiracies are a popular theme in thrillers and science fiction. Complex history is recast as a morality play in which bad people cause bad events, and good people identify and defeat them. Compared to the subtlety and complexity of rigorous historical accounts of events, conspiracy theory gives the reader a neat, intuitive narrative. It is perhaps no coincidence, then, that the English word “plot” applies to both a story, and the activities of conspirators.

Towards that end, I have bottled up my on-again off-again frustration with exploring the murky depths of conspiracy theory and mixed in a healthy dose of my love for science fiction and wild unwarranted speculation. And out the other end of this Rube-Goldberg device, a website dedicated to conspiratorial “What If’s?” was born.

You can read more about it on the site’s about page or on the submissions guidelines, but what I’m hoping to do is initiate a fresh and fun round of creative speculation about the nature of the world as we know it. And I’m hoping to do that while encouraging people to hone their fiction-writing skills, which I have been doing quietly in the background myself as well. Cause seriously, why should we let people like Dan Brown have all the fun inventing alternate explanations of history? Now here’s your chance! Sharpen your keyboards and send me some stories!

Also, if people have ideas for what categories to use to organize all these twisted tales, by all means jot them down here (on this post). And if you’re into this sort of thing, you can also view these two older posts which also half-inspired me to take up this project.

And don’t miss my first post on Conspiracy Fiction, which reveals the true origins of George W. Bush and our nation’s nuclear program! Enjoy.
