In the history book I'm reading right now the author wrote that Amerigo Vesspucci basically went along the coast of the two americas and wrote these really elaborate accounts of what was happening, then later this guy decided to name the new continents after him because of those stories.

ive always thought the whole Amerigo Vespuci story was fake... because i cant think of ANYTHING alse named after somebodies first name... then i read some theosophy something or other (and something else i cant remember as well) where it was pointed out that somewhere Native peoples called Quetzacouatl... Ameruca, thus making the name America "Land of the Plumed Serpent" which makes more sense to me than United States of Vespuci... theres also some kinda connection to Mt Meru (or so ive read)
