You’d think with all the Mary Magdalene and sacred feminine stuff going around these days, people would be more accepting of this sort of thing. Born Jesus reports that a Bible publisher has refused to print the slogan “Jesus Loves Porn Stars” on a Bible edition which the “hip” Christian anti-porn ministry XXXchurch.com intends to give out at porn conventions.
Pastors Mike Foster and Craig Gross say they typically give away 1,000 copies of the New Testament at each weekend festival they attend.
The American Bible Society rejected the pastors request to print the words on the cover of the 10,000 copies they had already printed. Barbara Bernstengel, the executive in charge of standards at the nonprofit Bible publishing company, wrote in a letter to the ministry that “the wording is misleading and inappropriate for a New Testament.”
The guys at xxxchurch.com are also sponsoring Porn Sunday in churches all over America. Look for it at a church near you.
The company reported made other suggestions for the cover imprint, but the ministers remained steadfast.
Gross said that the imprint would not be misleading: Jesus does love porn stars, as well as every one else, he said. The words do not indicate that Jesus likes pornography.
It’s not like they were using a more raunchy form of this slogan that they could have, such as “Jesus loves the sluts!” which would have also been theologically accurate as well. These Bible publishers really need to lighten up. They obviously do not understand the clever post-modern viral marketing angle that XXXchurch is smartly using.
Born Jesus (BJ!) also links to another website talking about ex-stripper Heather Veitch who now buys lap dances for Jesus (check out her faux-porn site here, JC’s Girls Girls Girls). That is, she goes to strip clubs to minister to other people in her former profession. She pays strippers for lap dances but then tries to titillate *them* with a bunch of God talk.
Now, I think this is a cute idea, but I’m not sure who is fooling who here. The business of strip clubs is that people go there to pay money so that their fantasies can be fulfilled. Some people’s fantasies include sexy encounters with gyrating women. Other people’s fantasies featuring entering into dens of sin and trying to “save” people. As noble as Veitch’s intentions may be, I don’t see what she’s doing as a great deal different from a man going in and getting a more conventional lap dance. Both she and the male patrons are putting themselves in a position of power in exchange for money. Both get a psychological rush by way of that interaction. Any stripper that can lie and make man after bald overweight man feel sexy is certainly going to be able to sit through some boring lecture about how Jesus loves them even if they are a sinner.
Hey, whatever gets you off, right?

sorry folks, even jesus can’t change our species’ biological hardwiring
origen’s middling success notwithstanding
Exactly. And criminalizing biology is a great way to start everyone at a disadvantage.
Well, maybe Jesus can’t but the Buddha can.
I strongly disagree with this article http://www.urbandharma.org/udharma5/sex.html
it seems like all buddhists talk about is impermanence and desire.
How do you balance between criminalizing biology and persuing the path of no-self? Biology leads us to selfishness, which leads us to misery. But trying to deny biology also seems to makes us miserable. What do we do?
Why does biology lead to selfishness and selfishness to misery? Is that irrefutable? Are cats selfish and miserable? What about dogs? What about children?
