Lift Up Lucifer
More sweetness from YouTube. This is a short video by John Allen Gibel, entitled “Hey Baphomet” and it says more than words ever could.
Check out John Allen Gibel’s MySpace page for more. FYI: This video contains some hardcore sexual imagery that may not be suitable for you cubicle slaves out there… But you also might not even notice it if you’re not paying attention.

How very… weird.
September 4th, 2006 at 6:45 pm
Now THAT is “art”!!!!
Actually, I couldn’t finish it. I got the weird impression that it was some sort of prayer or spell, and since I didn’t know the intention behind it, I decided it was better not to complete it. Plus, it was bugging me.

Probably a fair guess!

Is that one guy with the glasses Robert Anton Wilson? I really should know this but it’s hard for me to recognize.
September 4th, 2006 at 10:52 pm
No, I don’t think it was Robert Anton Wilson.
I had the same feeling that it was a prayer or spell and I felt really uncomfortable. Whenever I see something like this I feel uneasy. On the one hand many televangelists like the ones featured on the video taking about the occult, are either taking something out of context, or make arguments against something that has no basis in reality in the first place. So here you have shit-talkers along side of images of hitler and sex with unsettling music, repeated over and over. On top of this I had no idea what the person who made this video was trying to say. Was s/he trying to show me that the fears that society peddle exist within me even though I think they don’t? If so, this person succeeded. If it didn’t, I don’t think that video would scare me.

I don’t know. It may be that this kind of thing only has as much power and meaning as you give to it. Nothing more nothing less. Fearing that it’s a spell means what? How many hundreds more “spells” do you allow others to cast over you during the course of a day without even so much as questioning it, simply because these ones you’ve grown accustomed to don’t mention Lucifer or Satan?

saw that months ago, posted it to my own blog and then removed after 3 minutes caused i was worried about the sexual imagery! i was a wuss and applaud you for not being one too!
yeah agree its an invocation of some kind, seems intuitive and associative for that (as opposed to following some kind of script - looser, like dream) , has an odd kind of beauty that bears repeated watching, reminiscent of psychick tv or TOPY stuff
groovy essay here about luciferian awakening btw

No, I don’t fear it because it’s a spell. The images and sounds induced a feeling of uneasiness, which has forced me to face the feelings it induced, which many pieces or art or litterature will do anyway be it a spell or not.

If you can track them down (they used to be online), check out the films of Luciferian/Thelemite Kenneth Anger.
Just TRY and meditate while staring at the McDonald’s logo. I guarantee you won’t be able to shake the many insistent associations it provokes.

that was a fucking wierd vid, Tim. What exactly was the point of that?
September 5th, 2006 at 3:47 pm
maybe it was trying to show how all these so called aberrant things (nazism, porn, satanism, evangelism, etc. ) are pervasive or are actually appropriated by our culture. thus not so marginal as we think. the little children saying ‘Heil Hitler’ and the lady wtih the nazi sheet cake who tells us the Swastika is made of licorice! golly, that’s great, mom!!!
or maybe showing that all these things are connected?
the speaker said that freemasonry is a fertility cult, obsessed with sex. freemasonry = porn?
of course I could totally be wrong.

I caught this via your other YouTube post (which I’m going to incorporate in a video of my own, I swear to god), I think. As a piece of video art, I think it works extremely well. The standard cliches (TV preachers. satanism, pornography, Nazism, etc) somnehow just work, and it’s darn difficult to pull those off without looking amateurish.
As far as invocations go, I don’t profess to know what one is when I see it, so I’ll pass on that debate.

Hey prunes,
I have downloaded all (or most) of the Kenneth Anger films and haven’t had a chance to watch them yet. I remember reading that Anger made his films into elaborate rituals with the conscious intent to cause a magickal effect in the viewer.
As I’ve said, I haven’t watched them yet, but some of the people I’ve spoken to who have seen them told me that the films created this weird “uneasiness” and “disturbance” within them that lasted for days, and one person told me that he’s never really felt the same after a meditation/ritual involving the Anger films. Upon hearing this, of course, is when I decided to download the movies.
Anyway, I was wondering whether or not you experienced anything “strange” when you watched ‘em. I plan on watching them all one Saturday or Sunday when I have a block of time so I’ll find out soon enough on my own, but I’m just curious as to your experience.

This is definitely a weird video.. I think what people are referring to in regards to a “spell”, is something along the lines of a “sigil”. Which is basically “symbol created for a specific magical purpose” There is definite intent behind the video.
September 6th, 2006 at 9:22 am
Yeah, I “felt a little weird”, but it was the sort of thing where you don’t know if you have just scared yourself
In contrast, certain alchemy texts have provoked full-on hallucinations and undeniably altered states in me, similar to tripping.
I want to check out the Cremaster films soon.
September 6th, 2006 at 7:43 pm
prunes,
Cool. And no teasing, which alchemy texts are you referring to?
Thanks for the heads-up on the Cremaster films, I’d never heard of them before. I just read the wikipedia page on them and they seem really interesting, so I’m gonna hafta check ‘em out.

Well I think if we could put it into words, then there would be no point to having a video, right?
