I was married in a Welsh Wiccan handfasting ceremony six years ago and have been practicing Wicca for over 15 years. WHen I first saw The Wicker Man, I was so upset I cried and thought it was terrible. I couldn't figure out the point of killing the man: were they saying white people are evil? Wiccans/pagans are morons?

watching this scene today I actually laughed. it seemed campy instead of threatenining. but mostly, thank you, thank you thank you to hf for posting the link to 'The Infamous Brad' lj page withthe long explanation of the original film. That was great.

I wont go see the Nic Cage version of this movie However, I would like to see him get burned up in the end. He's such an idiot.

Wow, thanks for the links hf. Interesting discussions... tho, thruth be told, I moreso dug the part where it veered 'off topic' & started discussing Robert Heinlein. ;)

Tim: well, obviously. See this and the entry after it.

Slomo, don't forget the evil man-hating feminists in the new version.

IMDB Synopsis for the 1973 version:

Sgt. Howie travels to Summerisle to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. He discovers that the locals are weird and unhelpful, and becomes determined to get to the bottom of the disappearance.

IMDB Synopsis for the 2006 version:

A sheriff investigating the disappearance of a young girl from a small island discovers there's a larger mystery to solve among the island's secretive, neo-pagan community.

I'll leave it to your perceptive readers to figure out the meaning of the newer version.
