Ted Haggard on YouTube

I was sent a link to this by somebody in the “interactive marketing” department at Magnolia Pictures, the company behind the movie Jesus Camp. This is actually a clip from the movie where Ted Haggard makes some now rather ironic statements about gays.

I hate to beat up too much on the guy though, because let’s admit that he’s going through hell right now. And he’s going to get his just rewards when he goes to meet his maker anyway. So I’ve really got nothing but sympathy for people going through hard times, no matter how much it puts them in conflict with their professed belief systems. Cause deep down inside, I think we all have moments like this - where we go against who and what we say we are and hope to God that nobody finds out…

Also interesting to see everyone swoop into the gap left by this news - myself included, of course. I must have gotten the email from the marketing department of Magnolia within minutes of my site getting linked from BoingBoing (I’m also asking the people involved in the movie if they’d be interested in doing an email interview about it - so keep your fingers crossed). I’m sure this will also play well into the hands of politicos around the country on both sides.

Here’s another link a fellow blogger sent me: an email he received from a mailing list for New Life Church, announcing that Haggard has confessed to some of the charges against him.

Again, sad to see this go down. I have nothing but sympathy for everyone involved, but I think something is turning. I think somebody out there is cleaning house… Who’s next I wonder?

Also see this video interview on CNN where Haggard admits to buying meth from a gay prostitute, but never using it. Also carefully watch his face while he’s answering questions. In particular, when the woman asks if he had sex with the man, he says no, but at the end of the question, nods his head yes. What do you make of that? I’m sure the people involved with researching micro-expressions would have loads to say on that subject.

PS. And what’s with this recent news that Kent Hovind, one of the big-shots behind Evangelical Creation “Science” has been charged and found guilty of something like 200 years worth of jail for tax fraud? Does anybody smell something fishy in the wind? This is starting to look like a concerted attack to me. Where is this going? Why did these events coincide? Why wait so long to expose these people? My guess is that they lived out their usefulness and now its more expedient to throw them to the dogs as we all wait holding our breaths for a political sea change in this country which was as intentionally engineered as Bush stealing two elections and embroiling us in war in the first place. Democracy so rules!

Also, how long until this “male escort” thing starts being connected to Jeff Gannon, White House prostitution and the whole big ugly mess of blackmailing public figures in order to control them? Not long I reckon!

Nobody likes the stench of hypocrisy. These righteous right wingers turn out to be as flawed as anyone else but the flaws stand out so much more since they pretend to be perfect.

How can a gay man preach to tens of thousands on how homosexuality is evil and then sneak off to have sex with men? Remember Swaggart and his sex scandal.

there’s no escape from the fruits of one’s actions. liars are eventually surrounded by lies. people who preach hate become hated. those who foment division and mistrust are eventually divided and mistrusted. undermining others eventually undermines oneself.

justice delayed but never denied. it can be frustrating but there’s a kind of beauty in karma, when it does happen. if he doesn’t kill himself or go insane he’ll mutate into something more interesting now.

and it does smell a bit orchestrated to me. Bush has been shitting all over the cia to push his war agenda for years now. does anyone think that would never come back to haunt him? those sneaky geeks and spooks who know everything about everyone? does that seem like a wise group to piss off?

    stupid is as stupid does.

Handsome: I have edited your post down to just the link, as I’d rather people didn’t paste entire articles into the comments section
