Interesting observation richard. And as I put on my Jeff Wells hat (I jest), maybe this beat-down being administered by the DEA on your local moonshine-maker, I mean, meth manufacturer, is to allow the big cartels a bigger in. From what I understand, per gram, meth is more expensive that cocaine and heroin, and just think of the profits that could be made driving up that fancy new highway in planning from Mexico to Oklahoma/Kansas. That'll be a nice blow to the Heartland.. evil cheney face...

And I agree with PNP, some people are gonna get addicted to something/others won't. Who decides? Your ego or the screen dooring of it.

Just a quick observation, but it could also be good old-fashioned comeuppance against western imperialism. In the 19th century, didn't the Brits fan the opium habit amongst the Chinese populace as a way of destabilizing the society and stepping in and "opening up their market?" All sorts of shenanigans ensued thereafter, including the Boxer Rebellion. I vaguely remember learning about this in History of Western Civilization in 11th grade. My $.02.

Well, it's hard not to come across as a little elitist about this, as I am attributing great, long-lasting personal development to my previous use of something that destroys utterly nearly everyone whose life it intersects. Should I, rather, keep silent about this or, worse, lie?

Of course not! In the other thread, I stated clearly my thoughts on specifically how and why it is dangerous, how to avoid those dangers, and why I thought most people are incapable of avoiding those dangers (the final of which requires some clarification, apparantly.)

Contrast that with 'meth is bad, m'kay?' How many young people are going to be instantly fascinated with it, because they hear something like that and know that adults lie about every other fucking thing they ever tell the kids, so why should this be any different?

Yes, it sounds a little elitist to separate myself from the 'weak willed' (more clear terminology than my poorly used 'weak minded') BUT, in my opinion, willpower is a legitimate measure of one's personal development. This isn't like the caste system
in India, people aren't born 'weak willed' and unable to ever improve themselves, or born 'strong willed' out of karmic priviledge. This is a legitimate (if abstract) developmental scale I'm talking about here, and one that is woefully overlooked in our culture of victims and victimizers who are all too eager to project their weaknesses and problems on external forces.

So yeah, armed with the proper information and years (or decades) of personal development work under the belt, yes, it can be safe to try and potentially even beneficial.

it makes the weak minded dangerously insane.

I think there's something dangerous and insane about trying to separate ourselves from the "weak minded"

How would you propose that a person go about figuring out whether they are indeed weak-minded? By trying out crystal meth and seeing if it destroys them? That's what I mean by your attitude coming off as socially irresponsible.

I understand that recovered users will dream about being high for probably the rest of their lives (Dr. Drew Pinsky) ... talk about a monkey on the back!

One tragic trend will be the legacy of toxic chemicals left behind in houses and apts from the cooking labs. I bet not all slum lords will be nice enough to use more than windex to wipe things down, or tell prospective renters ...

I wonder what this trend points to…

all it points to is the shortest straight line to a major organized crime syndicate.

Speaking as a relatively young man in a major metropolitan area, I intuitively 'think' that our overall "always-on, always-fast" culture is the breeding ground for this shit. Sleep is seen as a waste of time, eating a nuisance, job performance is measured in cubits by heartless management.

Another reason why weed legalization might actually benefit society? It shows us how wonderful the slow lane can be, even for a little while.

What does this trend point to? Zombies!

The other night, actually a day or two before your previous meth post, I got sucked into a show about meth on the Nat'l Geographic channel. Two minutes of curiosity turned into an hour on the couch. I had no idea meth was so "on the rise" or any of that... I first had it burned into my consciousness via Third Eye Blind's hit song back in middle school. Seeing what it can do is pretty damn crazy (the before and after pics say a lot).

I would love to hear comments from someone whose been around it or used it before, and what they think about all this recent stuff.
