Friday evening I got an email from someone who informed me that actor Jack Palance had died. But that’s not all, and I’m certainly not one to offer celebrity eulogies. The point this woman wanted to make was that she remembered Jack Palance dying several years ago. She asked her boyfriend about it as well as another friend, and all three of them agreed that Jack Palance had indeed died sometime over the last few years.
And this may sound crazy, but I also remember him dying several years ago, as do a couple other people who I have asked about the subject. Glitch in the Matrix? Or as my friend JK described it, is the same type of viral marketing that launched Snakes On A Plane into tedious popularity now being utilized on the substructures of reality itself (or rather the media version of reality)? Or take Philip K Dick’s analysis of the situation from beyond the grave:
I am saying, simply, if they [alternate parallel universes] do indeed exist, and if they do indeed overlap, then we may in some literal, very real sense inhabit several of them to various degrees at any given time. And although we all see one another as living humans walking about and talking and acting, some of us may inhabit relatively greater amounts of, say, Universe One than the other people do; and some of us may inhabit relatively greater amounts of Universe Two, Track Two, instead, and so on. It may not merely be that our subjective impressions of the world differ, but there may be an overlapping, a superimposition, of a number of worlds so that objectively, not subjectively, our worlds may differ. Our perceptions differ as a result of this. And I want to add this statement at this point, which I find to be a fascinating concept: It may be that some of these superimposed worlds are passing out of existence, along the lateral time line I spoke of, and some are in the process of moving toward greater, rather than lesser, actualization. These processes would occur simultaneously and not at all in linear time.
[...] But I doubt if we will ever be able in any real fashion to demonstrate, to scientifically prove, that such lateral change processes do occur. Probably all we would have to go on would be vestiges of memory, fleeting impressions, dreams, nebulous intuitions that somehow things had been different in some way
Any one who has access to alternate universe documents (newspapers, magazines) proving that Jack Palance actually already died a few years ago may be eligible for cash prizes. Let me know and I’ll see what I can do!
Also check out the description of this documentary which my friend JK also caught. It’s called “Unknown Force”:
From the dawn of time, mystics, shamans and saints have proclaimed that we as human beings have unlimited power at our fingertips but fail to perceive its existence because it is beyond our five senses.
This amazing program presents the fascinating story of the scientists who are developing the technology to measure these imperceptible energies and the exploration of an untapped life force energy that is available to all of human kind which can revolutionize and improve the quality of our lives in dramatic ways.
Includes stunning extrasensory evidence that can no longer be denied, epic proof of spectacular human potential and amazing demonstrations of life force energy that defy scientific explanation, along with an unprecedented collection of interviews with researchers, eyewitnesses, experiencers, and the best-known, most credible paranormal authorities in the world today.

I can hear the skepticism machines instilled in you already whirring to action. Begin on-slaught of criticism that none of us actually “remember” Palance’s death occurring or that we’re actually remembering something else… now! Go!

As a PKD fan, and someone who has wondered about this alternate timeline business, you won’t get any argument from me. What the process involved is, I don’t know, but the great PKD explains the possible reasons quite eloquently.
I have read posts at another forum from a year ago that were debating even then…the idea that Palance shouldn’t still be alive. Of course with his “latest” death, it got going again. It’s one thing to say you remember something like this, and no one else does, but if enough people notice something “off”, then it may be likely something more is at play here. Perhaps there are other things that were we to take note of them, they would point to an alternate timeline, it’s just that the comings and “goings” of celebs is something of which a large group of people are aware.
I have some favorite examples, ’cause whenever a timeline thread comes up, I just get drawn to it, like a train wreck, lol. Of course what goes on in this case is more of an informal polling, and that’s hardly scientific, but nevertheless..
First of all, I remember Jack Palance being dead once. Another is Ernest Borgnine, some remember an Oscar ceremony that mentioned him. (dead reel) Red Skelton: I remember distinctly him dying in the 70’s sometime, yet now it’s mid 90’s. (I’m quite proud of blowing the mind of a skeptical friend with that one) Nelson Mandela: dead, now alive.
There are more, but I’ll finish with the one that was the most recent surprise to me: Robert Crumb, the cartoonist. Still alive, but I remember when the movie about his life came out, Siskel and Ebert reviewed it and mentioned the “late Robert Crumb”.
I’m waiting for a timeline with a very much alive PKD, and if that happens, I guess anyone may feel free to tell him he used to be dead in another timeline, he won’t be at all shocked..
When I read that Jack Palance had died, it didn’t quite sit well with me, but after reading this, I feel that I do remember hearing he had died several years ago. Creepy.
There used to be a section on realityshifters.com of stories from people who had noticed reality shifting this way. Some of the stories were incredibly weird and uncanny. I’m pretty skeptical so I don’t necessarily believe they were all true, but I started thinking about similar experiences in my own life, and thought of quite a few inconsistencies that I have never been able to quite reconcile.
God, this really is a great subject…
I have a couple more really solid posts to do on this subject. Can’t wait to get them going…
I’ve also been having this thing happen to me a LOT lately where when somebody around me says, “I’m having deja vu” the mere mention of it in them is enough for me to start feeling like it for a split second. May not mean anything or it may mean something very great.
I personally on Friday night felt very much like I was experiencing a shift into an alternate timeline or rather being made aware of a shift that had already happened. The details are too many and probably too personal to make sense to other people, but suffice it to say, I have never had a more coincidence-filled night in my recollection. I also felt like I knew what everyone was going to say before they said it at certain parts of the night…

Perhaps the voice was referring to an orthogonal time shift. See also this recent dream about an alternate timeline:

You know, this is really weird. My reaction when I read that Jack Palance was dead was the same: “What? I thought he died years ago.” I just kind of dismissed that thought since obviously everyone else was saying otherwise. Until I read this post.
Very strange.
Uh, I just got major chills. Did you see that Jack Palance was in a movie called “I Died a Thousand Times”
http://www.amazon.com/Died-Thousand-Times-Jack-Palance/dp/6302066883
That’s creeepy!!!
WHOA!!! No way!
What’s also weird is that movie is apparently a remake of another movie…
Also, he was in a movie called “Living With The Dead”
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001588/
Along with “Alice Through the Looking Glass”
And speaking of remakes, this is goddamned weird. I emailed my friend JK about a 1936 movie based on a HG Wells book, The Shape of Things to Come, which is supposed to be one of the templates for a New World Order/Conspiracy something or other. The description I found of the original:
Note the technocracy mention. More interesting than that though, I sent that on Friday, before I knew Jack Palance was dead. And I only found out just now that Palance was in a 1979 remake of that same movie!
Is Jack Palance Palmer Eldritch?
Here’s something I want to know but would be too annoyed to find out on my own. Didn’t Jack Palance “die” in City Slickers but then REAPPEAR in City Slickers 2 (it was supposedly his brother)? I seem to remember something of that nature, where Billy Crystal freaks out because he thinks Jack is dead …
Let’s list the Elritch simularities!
Hahaha
“When Palance accepted his Oscar for best supporting actor he delighted viewers of the 1992 Academy Awards by dropping to the stage and performing one-armed push-ups to demonstrate his physical prowess.”
It wouldn’t be that hard to do this if you HAD A METAL ARM!
Doesn’t he also die in Batman as crime boss Carl Grissom at the hands of The Joker:
http://www.moviedeaths.com/batman/carl_grissom/
Not only do I remember him dying, I remember looking him up on wikipedia a couple of years ago after hearing reports of his demise.

Dig the comments on Fark forum:

And there you have it; we are not alone!
Hmm… you know what’s weird, is that I find myself scouring google to figure out whether I can find some “proof” of a discrepency instead of just sitting calmly and thinking back “Do you remember yourself reading or hearing that Jack Palance had died.” But nonetheless, the more I can’t find anything concrete that says he died a couple of years ago, the more I am convinced that people are just making up this maddness. But if you search around online, there are tons of people saying the same thing:

That sounds like an episode of “Sliders” Garrett. Anybody else used to watch Quantum Leap religiously?
Also, anybody want to start placing bets on whether this “time shift” was related to events around the election going the way it did?
Ted Haggard buying meth from a gay prostitute? Does anybody know a good Biblical Old Testament parallel for that one, some kind of high priest falling from grace?
Also, as far as that quote Garrett posted above, two things jump out:
That thing where Pat Roberston predicting a tsunami hitting us and that correlating with some other weird predictions:
http://www.timboucher.com/journal/2006...-tsunami-heading-for-the-pacific-usa/
And again, that atomic bomb dream I referenced above… possibly being equivalent to the “volcano”. Wasn’t Goro Adachi on about volcanos for quite some time? Maybe *this* is what that dude is all about: threading together alternate timelines and the master pattern behind them

Well, that just about cinches it - TONS of people on all kinds of websites seem to remember him dying years ago…
Bill Hick’s analogy of America and Jack Palance in “Shane”
Tim — just want to say thanks for linking this to RI. The topic is very resonant, provoking speculation about what sort of feedback loops, glitch proliferation and the like could arise from shared awareness of such things. Much more likely in the internet age than previously.
I remember Mr. Palance, Mr. Skelton and Mr. Borgnine as having previously been declared dead too. There are several, at least four, other celebrities who have died twice but I can’t remember their names.
Okay, I’m coming into this late, but I also completely remember him having died years ago. Now, what I’m curious to know is– is this an isolated incident? Like, there are a few other things I seem to “remember”– from childhood, for instance– that I was eventually incredibly surprised to find were not the case.
An example: I could swear that, as a child in the South, I used to hear stories about the “KLU Klux Klan.” When I later found out it was the “KU Klux Klan,” I was completely taken aback. It wasn’t just a matter of unconcious alliteration or childhood misrememberances or anything– it was completely like someone had gone back and removed that “L.” Does anyone else have any stories like this?
Hey Tim - check out the 23rd comment at 3:33 above….
JP I know what u mean - maybe it’s some kind of KLU…?
Some other weird Palance synchronicities:
- He played Fidel Castro in Che. As well we know, Castro is currently on his deathbed and has also been the frequent subject of speculation as to whether he’s dead or not.
- He also played famous Gnostic Simon Magus in a movie called “The Silver Chalice,” about the Holy Grail.
What the hell, he played Simon Magus?
Good catch on the fark thread. I was scrolling down to post a link to the very same thing.
Re: “Joe Says” comment - I remember VIVIDLY coverage of Nelson Mandela’s death in prison in the late 80’s or early 90’s! I’ve met other who remember this too!
on one of those glp threads, someone mentions coming from an “alternative timeline” in which palance was dead, as well as chuck barris. i also thought barris was dead. anyone else?
You could have something here. Abpout ten years ago, I picked up a p[aper in the teacher’s lounge at school, and read a story about some native boys who had stolen a boat and committed some crime, and the punishment the tribe chose was for them to be ‘marooned’ on a little island. Two days later, I saw the exaqct same story in the same paper, and the punishment hadn’t been chosen yet- that stoery followed a day later. I spent a whole day combing that paper to find the ‘earlier’ version, which apparently never existed…everything I ever found dated to the day i saw the story the ’second time,’ and the actual crime took place the day AFTER I read about it. It’s bugged me forever.
Now that’s just a little too weird.
Dude, this stuff has seriously got me going. Nevermind all the craziness that accompanied it Friday night for me personally. It’s too much to explain here
This has been branched off by someone else into another forum with some good comments:

Is this kind of thing a call to people to start questioning? Are these “glitches in the Matrix” planted there by the resistance to draw us up?
i definitely agree with you, from personal history up to universal history. from a personal viewpoint, there have been times when i am the only left holding a memory of an event which i am 100% certain to have happened, only to question it to a person involved years later and am told either a) no, that never happened or b) no that never happened, but i remember thinking about something which is related to your memory of the event occuring. both options are obviously terrifying, and both have occured to me.
from a universal viewpoint, i would not be surprised if something of the sort is happening on a grander scale. there are plenty of intuitive people out there who are not guided to use their talent more wisely, so it may just come up as a foreshadowing, or a memory, or what have you. or it could be mckenna’s theory: time is speeding up, and is becoming more cyclical, so events of the future (or other futures) are becoming more readily apparent as actual events instead of fantasy. who knows how much has “happened” out there of which we have no memory of?
Well, I think everything is!
I gotta ask…does anyone remember a Mystery Science Theater 2000? Once a freind of mine casually mentioned on a board remembering when it “used” to be called that, and I still can’t get used to the the idea that it’s now MST 3000. (and apparently always was..)
Another thing that was burned nto my memory, because I watched the coverage at length and saw the date hundreds of times on the Tv screen.. John Lennon.. the date I remember is Dec 10, NOT Dec 8. Anyone?
We’re not the only ones–others remeber that he had died before and are asking questions as well

“Dear Lord, we give you Curly. Try not to piss him off.”
Another possible timeline oddity. On New Years Eve of 1999/2000 our power did actually go off for a few minutes, we heard gunshots in the streets (no surprise for Baltimore though) and most important of all, we saw on television an anchorwoman announcing that a missile had been accidentally fired in the former Soviet Union. I’ve never found any mention of that since from any other sources…
I also heard over the radio during 9/11, probably around 11:00am or something that an aircraft carrier had been taken oven in Boston Harbor. That could have just been a news mix-up, but who knows?
Jack Palance, Simon Magus, Time Travel

Erm, I don’t really remember this about Jack Palance, but that’s not really odd - I don’t really pay attention to deaths of actors. Truly, I wouldn’t have even known who Jack Palance was if someone hadn’t mentioned what he’d been in. That’s nothing different for me - I’m pretty bad at remembering actors’ names, just parts they play in movies or shows I’ve seen.
But this gives me something new to think about. Or at least a different twist. Two times in my life I’ve been told that I’m going to die twice. The first time was when I was in high school. A friend of mine used to do palm readings, and decided to do mine this one night. He took my palm and looked at it, and got this really strange expression on his face. Then he practically just threw my hand away. I asked him “What, what?” - kinda concerned, ya know? He finally said “You’re going to die twice” and then wouldn’t say anything else about it. Not ever. Anytime I asked about it after that, he’d just say “I wish I hadn’t looked.” Not very encouraging.
The second time was a few years ago. I’ll preface this by saying that up until now, I’ve never told anyone about this. And I grew up in Texas, but moved to Delaware 7 years ago, where this second time occurred. Definitely no way for them to be connected. Anyway, I met this psychic girl here (just someone I know, hadn’t ever really hung out with her - friend of friends). It was at this party, and she was telling people things. She got to me and told me the same thing “You’re going to die twice.” She was probably as surprised as I was - me being told for the second time the same thing (and years later), and her because it was a weird thing to say. She actually apologized. I asked her “So, what, I’m going to like have a heart attack and die and be resuscitated, that sort of thing?” She said “No, you’re just going to die twice.”
Over the years, I’ve thought about how someone could die twice from time to time. This puts a different spin on that one, though, doesn’t it?
And here’s a question to ponder, though it can’t be answered now - did Jack Palance think that he had died at some point?
Oh yeah, and for Joe:
In some places, it was called 2000 rather than 3000. Probably some goof up on the name by someone. The IMDb has it listed as an “Also Known As” name:
Gah, link got eaten somehow.
IMDb: Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988)
The same way one can be “born twice”. The Jewish scholar Nicodemus questioned Yeshua on this teaching (John 3). Kabbalists say that this illustrates the degenerate nature of Jewish theology in that time and place, as the fact of spiritual “death/rebirth” would be well-understood in a genuinely living tradition.
I have no opinion on the validity of palmistry. It is possible to die twice.
Well, I think everything is!
Too true, but I think this is a little more blatant than most.
That may well be the case, but I’m saying I remember the show actually being broadcast as such. (just to be clear) Perhaps this being a common mistake has to do with “timeline bleedthrough”
How sick and insensitive are you people?
Jack appeared in Back When We Were Grown-ups in 2004, so he was still alive then, unless corpses can act that is.
Show some respect for his family and his memory.
If he had died after that movie i think it would have been known to the world long before now.
He did pass on , on the 10th of Nov 2006.
i too remember tv coverage of nelson mandela’s death when i was very young.
I don’t see it as being sick or insensitive to say what we remember! Certainly it’s an unusual mystery! Your comments about “unless corpses can act” strikes me as far more crude than anything said here.

Regarding your last link, Tim.
He called us HIPPIES!?!?!?!! Is that what the ‘norms’ think of our views of Life, the Universe, and Everything??
Better than calling us nerds, I guess
Yeah I thought that was really funny and weird as well!
It’s not insensitive to bring up glitches in reality. If any of these celebrities are/were still alive they would appreciate our research into/interest in their lives/deaths. I’m sure the greater insult is for their lives/accomplishments to be used as some sort of cosmic joke.
Nobody pays much attention to these sorts of things because these people are from another era. Mr. Palance gained another round of recognition from a new generation. Perhaps if you would like to further your knowledge into this subject you could begin by bringing up this subject with an older person to see if they have experienced this phenomenon. My mother is a great fan of old celebrities and I always hear about their careers when one dies. We have had the conversation “I thought he/she was already dead” many times in the past. We’ve never thought of it as important (it’s kind of a family joke) and it’s not if it’s a “memory lapse” but it is important if it is some sort of “Dark City” rewriting of reality.
Ok, I’m freaked.
I too, recall Palance dying several years ago. When it was announced recently that he died, I dismissed the previous notion that he already died as a brain malfunction of mine. Until, over on Jermey’s blog, Garrett (I think) mentioned a Jack Palance time-shift.
That got me looking further. Since then, as others have, I have found numerous references all over to people who experienced the same thing.
Furthermore, on one of the forums mentioned above, someone mentions hearing that Arthur C. Clarke died during the 2004 tsunami and then heard that he was okay. That put me over the edge… I am an Arthur C. Clarke fan and I remember him dying not during the Tsunami, but perhaps a year or two before that. I remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard about it, and watching 2001 the day after. I also remember hearing about the Tsunami thinking to myself that if Arthur C. Clarke had still been alive, he would have likely died during that.
A quick visit to Wikipedia tells me that my favorite science-fiction writer is indeed still alive.

[...] In conversation, I wound up bringing up the Broncos’ legendary cheer-booster, The Broncos’ “Barrel Man” and we both agreed he had died some time ago kinda like Jack Palance). No sooner had me and the woman begun reminiscing about the Barrel Man, that an image of him and his wife sitting in the seats came on the screen. Whoa! We both said. Each of us had thought he had died. Weirder still, I think, is that we were talking about him at all. Needless to say, it took me back. [...]
[...] If you don’t know the reference, Jack Palance allegedly died late last year and yet many of us remember distinctly otherwise. Speculations abound as to these defects in consensus reality being caused by the simple fact that we do not all live in the same universe - quite literally.
