“Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage” Video

Via a friend of mine (along with some help from the neighbors - where my friend originally saw it screened), I managed to track down a really interesting video about the modern history of garbage. It is only 19 minutes long, and it details how we as a society had to be taught how to be wasteful. And guess who provided us with that extraordinary teaching? Why industry of course! And the need for the expansion of capitalist markets. As one commentator says in this documentary: garbage is proof that capitalism is working as it should.

This film is a companion to Heather Roger’s book of the same title. Here’s the website. Enjoy!

hippies are the prototypical neo-luddites. but saying that recycling isn`t profitable is a bit misleading. laidlaw has the recycling contract for the region where i live and laidlaw is owned by the degroot family……….billionaires. they also have the schoolbus contract, condo developement, industrial parks, auto parts………….all tied in with government regulations.
