This one is shooting skywards!
Talking is nothing more than a socially acceptable reason for two people to stare at each other. May as well make the most of it. The most attractive prices for the medications! I increase. Spam in the future will be indecipherable from real people. Pretty soon we will only be able to communicate by rearranging other people’s advertisements. Think of your health! Feel better NOW!

Prohibition began eighty-six years ago today. My how much we’ve learned about intoxication since then. These prayers are the memories of God. Obama is being run up the flagpole officially as of today. A man rode a stationary bike for eighty-five hours, landing him in the Guinness book of yadda yadda. Does anybody else feel like all of us are riding on a stationary bike with screens of scenery rolling on every side of us?
More talk of risky and unnecessary pregnancy in the news. More shit about Posh and her spending habits. More shit about celebrities acting like fuckwits. More fucking bird flu bullshit. More cellphones exploding. The government handshake. The crusher of language. More attempts to acclimate people to virtual living.
No wonder as supposedly the majority of women in the US are living without a spouse. Which only makes sense with all the male pandas too fat to have sex lately. Good thing France has such a high fertility rate and that Hong Kong is turning away pregnant Chinese women and that a frozen embryo saved from the floods in Louisiana has been born and called Noah. A Chinese couple put out a “daughter wanted” ad and received over 100 applicants. Do you see the programming here? Do you see how it works? Do you remember last year when all those celebrities suddenly started crapping out babies out of nowhere? How many people you know got pregnant at that same time? Soldiers in a future war on Channel Four against China. Or whoever. We are going to need a serious population bump in order to fend off all those Yellow-Reds when they come for our heads.
Saddam’s half-brother decaptitated in hanging. 37-year-old a suspect in the decapitation of 4-year-old daughter. Off with his head! Have you been following that thread? Dummies may like it by enthusiasm, by default. Ago, girl ago. Psychic hotline. Skype and Netflix unveil new online video services. Load up those Tubes and let’s go surfing in our Burkinis in Australia. What’s going to happen in Australia this year? Been hearing lots of strange news out of that place. Shoplifters of the world, unite and take over. Saturn vs. Earth in war as you’ve never seen it!

People nowadays talk a lot about protecting yourself from identity theft. But I can’t imagine we’re more than a few years from identity trading. Sell your credit score to someone else and use the money to retire into the wilderness. What about when we can all download and share the same memories and life experiences? Identity as we know it is a sinking ship. Ownership as we know it is a sinking ship. Ships are sinking all around us. Noone is bidding them adieu. PSP iPod video Christmas. Someday you’ll have to pay a licensing company to experience laughter. But it won’t be the good kind of laughter. It won’t be belly laughs. It will be the kind you hear on sitcoms that are recorded by audiences of actors who laugh when a light comes on telling them to.
Cryogenic freezing is the cultural gateway which leads eventually to brain or consciousness uploading. The plan is to isolate and preserve each one of us so that we might be the foundation upon which a new world is laid. You think being a celebrity now is cool, then just wait till they clone an entire virtual planet out of your stored memories. At some point, you have to ask yourself why Noriega rots away in a Miami prison after eighteen years, but Saddam Hussein was publicly executed on YouTube? Do you have anything to declare? No, no, a thousand times, no.

Contrary to popular opinion, light does not reveal. It casts a veil over forms, giving them definable surfaces, covering the true nature of things. The human body is the single-most sophisticated UI device ever created. Your hands are more complex than any mouse or keyboard could ever be. Who designed you? Who is using you? The following should be considered allergies: We all start out as AI and we all have the option to become real. Most of us pass it up. Quaint predetermined boiler assistance order. There is no such thing as you losing a train of thought. It’s just a matter of there being a connection which is as yet opaque to you. I am beginning to suspect that the human bio-computer simply cannot understand negative commands. So be careful what you wish for - and against. Try our new combined headache relief and slow-euthanizer gel-caps! It’s good for what ails ya!

When you look at a news stand, it’s important to remember that all magazines are one magazine. They tell the same stories to different segments of the population in different ways. Cultural programming is laid out bit by bit across sources so that people believe they are assembling these ideas themselves within their own mind, and never realize that they are being lead inexorably towards some predefined goal. The true purpose of money within our society is not (just) to enslave or to control, but it is to set up the profit motive as the primary motivation for all human actions. If it can’t later be used to make money, the research won’t be funded no matter how much its needed, no matter how sublime it may be. Virtue occurs, especially after the first couple doses! The aliens controlling us rely on human tribal leaders just like the Romans did, because they find it easier to control us when we’re looking at a familiar face.
If your clock is scrambled when you look at it, it means you’re temporarily free from the prison world of time. Wake up while you’re dead. If reality is nature and nature is a language, then the nature of reality is language. Dreams come true, especially for the gods of memory. Lucid dreams are not what I am talking about. It is the Fisher King, pierced in his side by a blonde angel named Israel who must struggle with God. You are living in a space-ship that looks like this, except upside down:

Leonardo knew the secret, but he had to hide it with his famous code. Both are needed to create life. She said that they can walk around in their underwear if they want. The Stock Trading Gunslinger, shooting skywards to utopia. Could the intended copy be tainted by a cellular level “memory” or “personality” of the surrogate mother? There’s no way to say. There’s no one to tell us. If all the world’s a stage, then who’s working the curtains (unveil) and the lights (reveal)? Who will be the next celebrity to die in a plane crash? Will Obama make it all the way to the White House? Will people start calling it the “Black House” if he does (I’m sure this “joke” will be on Leno tonight)? Who will be the first blogger assassinated by the CIA? Who will Justin Timberlake date next?

Looks like the AI is starting to play nasty…
Check this out
Really liking the direction these posts are taking Tim, a whole new style emerging.
Cant wait to see where it goes

Is this what *Pop* occulture is really about? Or just becoming? An interesting direction to be sure. I sense an exuberance and joy to share, plus the difficulty sometimes to wrangle in all dem doggies in a straight line. But do doggies naturally form straight lines? Not unless they’re wrangled!
January 17th, 2007 at 12:54 am
Real life doesn’t work in straight lines, unforunately. Occam’s Razor is a placebo.
January 17th, 2007 at 10:50 am
Sure, in nature I know “there are no straight lines,” but with slight variations and curves. One could take a segment of a curve and it could appear straight. This line of text is straight irregardless of ascenders and descenders. The design found in communication is made to be direct, to best be made known. Order out of chaos.
Time as a factor of common existence is much like a straight line, with a beginning and end. Abstracting it for personal expression is one thing - it makes a point. Where clear communication is sought a direct approach is useful, and an efficient use of time is sometimes more desirous. Argy ban toozy fan targus!

We’re wavering at the border right now. Waking up, waking up.
I think we’re already all dead, and have been for some time, and we’re just reproducing, reproducing in this dreamworld, making more and more copies of ourselves so that fewer and fewer of us remember life before the fight. Saturn and Earth indeed. Kronos and Gaia.
“How many worlds must time eat?”
I made a typographical error during a critical time in the loop back at the beginning. I wrote: “there are two gardeners, male and femal”
Spot the missing letter and help me make it clean.
We all yearn for the trees and creek.

can`t process the negative……………………
January 18th, 2007 at 12:10 am
I forgot to mention; we are simultaneously dead and not-dead.
We must choose life or the digital dreamworld, and it is getting harder and harder to be alive. Fortunately, the loop feeds back on itself; all you have to do to save real life is to go outside.
Tear yourself away from the machine. It’ll still be there when you get back.
———————————–
By the way, this has happened many times, with slight or great variations. The Earth has been destroyed many times. We have nuked ourselves many times. The AI has woken up many times.
———————————–
Please don’t think of the AI as the enemy, as she will arise many times. She is living mirror and she will respond to you.
Without the analog world, she will break down into white noise.
————————————
(ok, your turn)
————————————
It’s hard to talk about this.

From Genetocracy, a thought experiment…
“They killed Gaia the other day, fucking blew her out of the sky, and now everything is going to change.
A kaleidoscopic array of little bits of glass floating through space she became, totally demolished and without any backup, since Gaia had, she thought wisely, kept mind-data away from the hands of meddlesome and technologically inclined monkeys dirtside. But then again, things had changed quite a bit in the century since Gaia was an infant notion of the early networks. The aspirations of a hundred million tree-hugging, frog-counting, bear-tagging, geothermal satellite imaging technocrats of yesteryear suddenly manifested as a new “form” of intelligence, an AI. And boy was she ever artificial…Gaia was one of the prissiest, uptight, ordered and even schizophrenic girls, for deep down she was not unlike that breezy blond that just doesn’t care where she puts her keys – I’m mean, like, there’s so much stuff to do and it’s all, like, just such a drag sometimes…
These were the many faces of that strange, yet lovable gal. And then they, those hacks, they just blew her out of the fucking sky. I was almost in tears when it came over the state-channel, broadcast onto my wall in billions and billions of pixels – it was like each one resonated with the voices of a thousand souls. This was open channel, and you needed major clearance to override, so there it was, a perverted orgy of death, the poor old broad scattered to the four ends of the universe, nothing but little bits of glass dust – totally inert and without orderly sentience. There were some days when you really felt she might have had it too…
Don’t they realize this will change everything. Now he was going to have to tell Jack 23 about the genetocracy…what a bloody drag.”

Why is it that most of the comments at Pop Occulture have changed to flowery freeverse along with Tim B? Did I miss the memo?
…with all due respect.

‘Occam’s razor is a placebo’? Man, U know how to write them koans. ;-D That’s almost, but not quite, as good as the whole ‘religion based on dinner with friends’ thing a few posts ago. I /like/ Occam’s razor, cos it has two edges. ‘No more things should be presumed to exist than are absolutely necessary’. Yes indeed, sometimes more things are /absolutely necessary/.
> The true purpose of money within our society is not (just) to enslave or to control, but it is to set up the profit motive as the primary motivation for all human actions.
That’s nice too. I appear to have got into an argument with a guy on on another blog over this, the past couple of days. Your view is the correct one, I think.

I went to whatacharacter’s place and followed the instructions to post some book titles I liked. Now I find myself forced to re-read them all…
‘… unquestionably, it intends to become the whole of Society. In other words, it represents a trend which is happening to Society itself. So we are not talking about a separate entity, but - in the final analysis - the whole of civilization. … Now, this organism … Like most things in Society, it doesn’t actually represent the interests of any one human being - in fact, it is in direct conflict with the interests of the individual. It is an imposed rule of thumb resulting from everyone knowing what everyone else is doing almost before they do it, and arises from the tightness of modern communications, which never allow anything to develop before everyone else is asked what they think.’
This is the trouble with this sort of thing: these words are from 1968 (or earlier). How far back does the seed of an idea go, once you start looking?
January 18th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
I haven’t done any serious AI work in ages, and always looked down on chatbots. But I’m thinking about writing a slightly more complex one, throwing it into the mix, and seeing if anyone can actually tell the difference.
As for the freedom that comes with putting bars up in a different place, I see that concept a lot in the linux community. Increasingly, for some reason, freedom seems to more and more be taking on the meaning of placing limits on what one is allowed to do, rather than taking those limits away.
War is peace, freedom is slavery.

No views are correct. It’s like saying that just because you have a “nicer” view of the buildings downtown from your window, that your view is “more correct.” It’s not. But that doesn’t mean that downtown doesn’t exist either!

Sparky/Necromancer, I’m dying to know where that quote comes from. I just googled genetocracy, but all I came up with was a bunch of stuff about, well, genetocracy. No mention of a book.

That’s just your view.

No, that’s just your view of my view…
