The Final Purification of the Elect

No one wants to hear what you dreamt about unless you dreamt about them. This morning I dreamt that the rats came back into the pantry and got into my stuff. Or at least that they were starting to. I walked in from the hippy biodome through the pantry and heard them squealing in delight and running around. I turned and hissed at them like a cat and barked at them like a dog and they disappeared. But I can only keep them at bay so long, you know, if I am not even there. They were dream rats but soon they will be real rats and they will have erased the memory of my presence with their huge smelly disgusting turds which contaminate everything they touch like radiocative waste.

There’s a chapter in that Swedenborg book entitled “The Appearance, Location and Abundance of Hells.” I thought that might be a good title for this post. Or else the chapter entitled, “What Hellfire and Gnashing of Teeth Are” - because I know we are all wondering what they are, even though we all have a pretty good idea of what they are like. We hear it every day, after all. The Gnashing. We feel the Hellfire licking at our heels. I also love this chapter title: “The Lord Does Not Cast Anyone Into Hell; Rather, the Person Himself Does.”

Which means, also, that the “Person Himself” has the ability to remove himself from all the Gnashing and the Hellfire and whatnot. It is a simple act. Perhaps the simplest of all acts: the exertion of Free Will - the primordial Act from which all other actions ultimately stem and are set into motion. So remove yourself from Hell if that is what you want.

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Maria, do the souls in Purgatory have, nevertheless, joy and hope in the midst of their suffering?

Yes. No soul would want to come back from Purgatory to the earth. They have knowledge which is infinitely beyond ours. They just could not decide to return to the darkness of the earth.

Here we see the difference from the suffering that we know on earth. In Purgatory, even if the pain of the soul is just terrible, there is the certitude of living forever with God. It’s an unshakeable certitude. The joy is greater than the pain. There is nothing on earth which could make them want to live here again, where one is never sure of anything.

Maria, can you tell us now if it is God who sends a soul into Purgatory, or if the soul itself decides to go there?

It is the soul itself which wants to go to Purgatory, in order to be pure before going to Heaven.

Maria, at the moment of death, does one see God in full light or in an obscure manner?

In a manner still obscure, but, all the same, in such brightness that this is enough to cause great longing.

Maria, can you tell us what the role of Our Lady is with the souls in Purgatory?

She comes often to console them and to tell them they have done many good things. She encourages them.

Ode 17

1. Then I was crowned by my God, and my crown was living.
2. And I was justified by my Lord, for my salvation is incorruptible.
3. I have been freed from vanities, and am not condemned.
4. My chains were cut off by His hands, I received the face and likeness of a new person, and I walked in Him and was saved.
5. And the thought of truth led me, and I went after it and wandered not.
6. And all who saw me were amazed, and I seemed to them like a stranger.
7. And He who knew and exalted me, is the Most High in all His perfection.
8. And He glorified me by His kindness, and raised my understanding to the height of truth.
9. And from there He gave me the way of His steps, and I opened the doors which were closed.
10. And I shattered the bars of iron, for my own shackles had grown hot and melted before me.
11. And nothing appeared closed to me, because I was the opening of everything.
12. And I went towards all my bound ones in order to loose them; that I might not leave anyone bound or binding.
13. And I gave my knowledge generously, and my resurrection through my love.
14. And I sowed my fruits in hearts, and transformed them through myself.
15. Then they received my blessing and lived, and they were gathered to me and were saved;
16. Because they became my members, and I was their Head.
17. Glory to You, our Head, O Lord Messiah.
Hallelujah.

The other day at the park we saw an angel in a white bathing suit playing a trumpet in the exaltation of God’s creation. She was seated on a hilltop in the sunlight. The metal of her music stand curled into infinity. Relationships past crushed themselves into the perfect arc of the sky. I saw you standing before me clothed in the raiment of Heaven. You had your arms outstretched and you were weeping with the song of joy. I built a cabin there in your honor as a shrine to how deep into the forest I had to go to find you. And now where have you gone?

I really like this passage from Swedenborg, chapter 3 towards the end of verse 18:

There were some spirits doubtful about love’s possession of such characteristics, who wanted to know whether this was true. So with certain hindrances temporarily removed, they were assigned to a condition of celestial love. Then they were brought forward some distance to the location of an angelic heaven. They talked with me from there, saying they had grasped a happiness too inward to render in words, and were severely troubled at the prospect of returning to their former condition.

In other words they started having panic attacks.

I don’t know where Swedenborg’s own visions and visitations with these spirits lead him to, but in my eyes what these spirits aren’t realizing is that they don’t have to go back to their former condition at all. They can stay here in this heaven and they can live forever in God’s love. It’s only their conception of their having to return which forces them to do so because in heaven your thoughts and intentions determine your (experience of) reality utterly. “This is because everyone in heaven speaks from his thought, for they have thoughtful speech there, or vocal thought.”

  1. The First Temptation is to simply cling to the pain because as much as it may hurt, it is at least known. And you have adjusted to carrying it with you and would rather do so forever than face the unknown dangers of potentially even greater pain.
  2. The Second Temptation is to give up your pain for the wrong reasons. Because you want it to be over, not because you’re ready to face the Truth of what is.
  3. The Third Temptation is to take on the pain of others as your own in order to protect them, which as lovingly done as it may be is a violation of their Free Will and to adopt the conceit that you and not God is the one who ultimately heals someone’s heart.

God has come to free his Ennoia, his love, from prison:

PARIS Hilton believes her jail sentence was a message from God to change her party-loving lifestyle and become a positive role model for people who look up to her.

In her first interview since she was dramatically sent back to jail on the weekend, Hilton said her imprisonment had been a life-changing wake-up call.

“I used to act dumb — it was an act,” she said.

“I am 26 years old and that act is no longer cute. It is not who I am, nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me. God has given me this new chance.” …

“But I was not eating or sleeping,” Hilton said.

“I was severely depressed and felt as if I was in a cage. It was a horrible experience.” …

“My spirit or soul did not like the way I was being seen and that is why I was sent to jail — God has released me,” she said.

Responsibility is the response you choose to your ability to do something. What is it that you are able to do now that you weren’t able to do before? And now that you have that power, what is your response - what will you do with it? That’s responsibility.

Wow, how interesting to see mercy turned into a vice. Y’all know Jesus’ advice to give to the poor, cloth the naked, and visit the sick and incarcerated - all acts which violate and/or ameliorate the law of karma.

“For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

I don’t know about you, but the judge I never want to meet is the karmic judge.

Well the whole point of Jesus is that his act destroys Karma, or “celestial determinism”. Check out PKD in Divine Invasion, has a great explanation of that.

If you don’t know this already, it’s mind-dribbling-out-the-ears stuff. The most well-known stretch, and a good place to start, begins ‘For I will consider my Cat’… towards the end of B4.

without wanting to sound pedantic, the people who were filled with an unnamable joy were not having anxiety attacks……….

panic or anxiety is a condition brought about due to abusive relationships. the person experiencing the panic generally is reacting to having to make a decision on thier own about something and is fearful of an unknown outcome.

the people in question were experiencing depression over thier percieved loss of the state of joy.

we don`t get anxious about past events. only what could happen in the future.
