I think you have to do it repeatedly, without beating yourself up too much over your self-revelations. It is hard for some of us to be brutally honest with ourselves. It helps to have friends who can help us with this. Identifying and renaming is good. For me it is one hell of alot of work. Recapitulation can be a good tool. Castaneda touches on this. Confession to yourself is very difficult. I think you have to do it repeatedly, without beating yourself up too much over your self-revelations.
