[...] My first day back in Seattle I spent in the pavilion (formerly the summer house) behind the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford. From 1907 to 1973 it was the “Home of the Good Shepherd“, run by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd to “rescue orphans and girls leading an immoral life.” More directly, I’d heard from a neighborhood loremaster that it was where nuns brought teenage prostitutes to Jesus. Not that that’s why I went there. I really just wanted a quiet outdoor place to begin re-writing the musical, a story which had itself gone very wrong and much in need of redemption. I asked for the blessing of those women who once lived there and strived towards something better - whatever their circumstances - as I wrote. [...]

[...] And that’s an elegant and important way of getting to the crux of the matter here. As you set up these symbolinked variables, what you are essentially doing is creating a set of actor/characters. The next logical step, of course, is to put on a performance. This is why I have gotten so into the whole “musical” idea lately. The idea is basically that you begin to creatively play with your new definitions of reality so as to unlock hidden relationships, unblock stagnant energy and literally re-route the flow of your life and of reality. I mean, this shit actually works if you do it right. So be careful. [...]

Yeah the musical context we are shooting for here (in this version) is the late 80's, early 90's hair metal monster ballad type karaoke tunes. But I'd love to see people do the same concept with other songs and time periods.

Man, I guess you’ve been burning the midnight oil…

Yeah I wrote this all in one 11 hour sitting without getting up, eating, drinking or going to the bathroom. It was intense, to say the least. But I'd been doing preparation and talking about it collaboratively with my co-producer for about 4 months now at least, if not my whole life.

In my time of dying - Led Zepplin (Bonham/Jones/Page/Plant)

In my time of dying, want nobody to mourn

All I want for you to do is take my body home

Well, well, well, so I can die easy (X2)

Jesus, gonna make up my dyin' bed.
Meet me, Jesus, meet me. Meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, Lord. Please meet me with another pair

Well, well, well, so I can die easy (X2)

Jesus, gonna make up.. somebody, somebody...
Jesus gonna make up... Jesus gonna make you my dyin' bed

Oh, Saint Peter, i command to live... Won't you let me in
I never did no harm. I never did no wrong

Oh, Gabriel, let me blow your horn. Let me blow your horn
Oh, I never did, did no harm.

I've only been this young once. I never thought I'd do anybody no wrong
No, not once.

Oh, I did somebody some good. Somebody some good...
Oh, did somebody some good. I must have did somebody some good...
Oh, I believe I did

I see the smiling faces
I know I must have left some traces

And I see them in the streets
And I see them in the field
And I hear them shouting under my feet
And I know it's got to be real
Oh, Lord, deliver me
All the wrong I've done
You can deliver me, Lord
I only wanted to have some fun.

Hear the angels marchin', hear the' marchin', hear them marchin',
hear them marchin', the' marchin'

Oh my Jesus... (repeat)

Oh, don't you make it my dyin', dyin', dyin'...

It's older than most of the stuff you plopped nicely into your musical but maybe a sick medely of Video Killed the Radio star and In my time of Dying (led zepplin) would be a nice touch. Intertextuality and all that.

I love the musical thus far and would certainly go and see it. I don't have any contacts in the theater/entertainment industry but if you need any help with it I would be glad to see it come to life.

The mission of the artist in an over-technologized society is to call the old magic back to life.

It is the function of the artist to call attention to what life does not.
