They talk about operas being alchemical back in the day. I think what they mean by that is that the frequencies are resonant in such a way as to open gateways within the human energetic system.

In Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, the Prime Radiant is a device in which the psychohistorical equations are stored. These equations show the future development of humanity.

It was designed by Hari Seldon and built by Yugo Amaryl.

It projects the equations onto walls. It is not clear how it works, but it does not cast shadows, allowing workers to interact easily. The control is done through the power of the mind and allows the user to zoom in to details of the equations, and change them. Annotations can be made, but by convention all amendments are anonymous.

To make a change, a student who is destined for speakerhood has to present an amendment to the plan. The mathematics would then be checked rigorously by five different boards. The student has to defend it against a concerted and merciless attack. After two years the change will be reviewed again. If after the second examination it still passes muster the contribution is added to the Seldon Plan.
