Would anybody out there like to take a crack at this?
Maybe you could make a database for people to fill in their “skills” (which would generate some sort of output they could put on their site as a badge). And at the same time, you would have a way to store off all this information so eventually it could be searchable.
Anyone who wants to try their hand at this idea and make it *work* should absolutely 100% feel free to do so. And I encourage you to make whatever money you can through it (advertising, etc) and/or derive whatever personal benefit you may be able to (Remember: I give away free business ideas, so get cracking!). Consider this an open invitation to run with this idea in whatever format you can make work.
Thanks to Garrett for bringing this idea to the surface. I have been considering this underlying issue as well. Numerous people have already create skill inventories, but how do we connect them all together? Do they need to all be connected together? How would you better focus these questions in order to actualize changes in the “real” world?

Great Concept! I am thinking of doing a couple sites that look pro, to demonstrate my skills in JSP/ASP and building database driven sites. This is a good idea, for sure. I think it could be populated to start with a script that just reads in people’s resume and tries to extract skills, so people don’t feel lonesome in publishing their skills, and then it could grow from user participation. I have to chew on this…
Chew away! Take it in whatever direction works. Make a bunch of money off it, but do something to actually improve lives. That’s all I ask.
