WidgetBucks - Testing out new ad system

If you’re old fashioned and you still actually visit my website instead of reading me through RSS, you may notice a new ad system right smack dab at the top of my site. It’s powered by WidgetBucks and I am testing it out.

Yes, I realize people “hate ads” and I am a “sell-out,” etc and if you’re horribly offended by this move, I invite you to complain loudly and then never read my writing again. Certainly won’t be the first time that’s happened. But as I become more involved in alternative business models and complementary currencies and shared value communities operating according to “thank you” economics, I see a growing need to have viable corporate partners to help me achieve certain of these goals. There’s no reason for me to re-invent the wheel every time I do something, so certain companies could easily fit into my strategies of mutually inspired abundance.

I am working to maintain data integrity of my site though, and exploring various methods of how to do that. I believe there is a WordPress plugin that somehow hooks into your system so that you can remove ads for “friends” (defined, I think, as people who have left comments), which works for me anyway, as it is not the people who read my site and comment every day who click on ads anyway. (Oddly, the people who perhaps benefit the most from my writing support me the least financially - with some notable exceptions of people who have donated me money directly - outside of ad revenue systems altogether). So there may be a mutually beneficial solution here on a design/aesthetic level, and I aim to find it. Please to be bearing with me in the meantime…!

Tim - I’m finding that the google ads on the right side bar are flashing periodically, and perhaps it started to happen when you added the Widgetbucks tool? I didn’t notice the flashing ads yesterday, for instance. I use an old version of Firefox, FYI. Its pretty annoying. ADD + VALUE… nerd alert…

Yeah the widgetBucks thing seems to be slowing down the site significantly with no added benefit so far

I’ve removed the WidgetBucks code to see if that brings things back to normal.
