Did you know that the modern word “drug” comes from an older root word meaning, essentially, “dried plant“?

Most of our modern drugs are in fact not “drugs” in that sense at all. They may come from a plant (or more likely from a lab!), but they are highly refined to the point of being chemicals and not drugs at all.
