What’s Missing From This Blog Post?

{Piggy-backing on the idea I just posted about: using cached versions of pages in place of newer updated versions, either intentionally or accidentally…}

How would you ever know whether a blog post that you’re reading from a random stranger on the internet hasn’t been automatically edited to remove certain keywords and types of content? For that matter, how do you know content hasn’t been added in by someone other than the original writer of the post?

YOU SIMPLY DON’T.

There is currently no way to know. Whatsoever, and I’ve never seen anyone really talking about it in the mainstream (or even the conspiracy) blogging communities.

I was thinking one way to get around it would be to have your blog posts go out with PGP signatures and encryptions separately as back-up and redundant version comparisons, which could then be analyzed against what appears in search engines, if you know you have an authentic version of the original source material.

But this is very convoluted and an inelegant solution. There has to be a better one, and one which will have broad-reaching implications for data integrity online. And I rely on you guys to find it, build it and make a bunch of money off it.

    I don’t know Tim.

    I got the impression that a few months ago you was doing this very thing yourself. And it was very well done - but parts of the posts appeared (to me at least) to be automatically generated.

    Maybe I am off base; but if I am - it’s probably not by far… :)
