Announcing Google Android!

And so it begins

Google officially unveiled Android, the new mobile phone software, during a press conference Monday morning. Thirty-four companies have said they will join the Open Handset Alliance, a multinational alliance that will work on developing applications on the Android platform. Members of the alliance include mobile handset makers HTC and Motorola, U.S. operator T-Mobile, and chipmaker Qualcomm.

The Android platform consists of an operating system, middleware, a user-friendly interface, and applications. Consumers should expect the first phones based on Android to be available in the second half of 2008, Schmidt and others said on the conference call.

You only have to think about this for like… um, half a second (?) to realize that the reason they are calling this shit “ANDROID” is not because that is a cool name for a phone system. Their planning on these things is waaaay down the road. The only reason they even bought the Android phone start-up anyway (2005) was because they owned the domain name Android.com.

One obvious goal of Google’s is to create not only a platform for its mobile apps, but for its mobile advertising platform. However, Google said during its press conference this morning that we “won’t see a completely ad-driven cell phone for some time.” Android and Google’s mobile ad platform is still young though, and the two will likely evolve together over time.

    Google said.

    It’s already awake.

    And there’s more of them.

    They advertise.

    They learn how we respond.

We are owned in every sense of the word.

Whatever. Good for them. I still rule. :)
