I haven’t read enough about this to find out what the Feds claim these guys are doing that is so illegal (maybe it’s putting Ron Paul on money, or maybe it’s actually backing their currency with real monetary reserves), but it’s an interesting turn for complementary currency advocates. The government’s complaint is outlined in the raid’s seizure warrant affidavit, which was temporarily disclosed by accident in U.S. District Court in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then posted on the Internet by vigilant libertarians. The affidavit can be found here:

I can’t believe these charges will stick. I have encountered the liberty dollar before, and I was told quite explicitly that the actually value of the “medallion” based purely on its metal was approximately one half of the value printed on it. Hell, I think I read that on their website as well. If its that well known, can it really be fraud?
