    A backdoor in MySpace’s architecture allows anyone who’s interested to see the photographs of some users with private profiles — including those under 16 — despite assurances from MySpace that those pictures can only be seen by people on a user’s friends list. Info about the backdoor has been circulating on message boards for months.

    As they say in the programming world when something goes wrong, “It’s not a bug, it’s a feature.”

    Since the glitch emerged last fall, it has spawned a cottage industry of ad-supported websites that make it easy to access the photographs, spurring self-described pedophiles and run-of-the-mill voyeurs to post photos pilfered from private MySpace accounts.

    First, I blame consumerism and marketing. We are supposed to be kept in constant state of tension and inadequacy unless we buy something, which relieves us for like 5 minutes. The world’s number one obsession, and the number one product sold, is Not Feeling Bad™. You not feeling bad is more important than the feelings of others, who only feel bad because they’re ‘losers’, not because you’re abusing them, see?

    And fucktards like Oprah shriek at these losers “You don’t have to feel guilty. Be true to yourself.” Whatever the fuck that is. But the abusers (who are also losers doncha know) apply it to their own lives and say with fucking pride(!?!?!?!) “I don’t care what anyone else thinks.”

    Then they find a handful of similarly damaged creeps on teh netz and their behaviour becomes, in their (what passes for a) mind, validated.

    Where once they would’ve felt isolated and ashamed (unless by a chance a member of the nobility should discover them and recruit them into the fold) they now have a fucking ‘community’ right at the time that we’ve been stripped of our torches and pitchforks. How convenient.
