Lakota Independence Updates

Has anybody heard anything new about the Republic of Lakotah independence movement? Still, the only articles I have found on it are from back when it was first announced, about a month ago. Since then, it’s been pretty much radio silence on the subject. Would be interested in additional information as it becomes available - and if you’re part of the movement, please consider putting me on a mailing list. I’d be happy to act as a media feeder for you guys.

    Most recent info I’ve seen:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Lakotah

    International response

Internationally, according to Russell Means, Venezuela’s ambassador to the United States has stated to the group that his country cannot recognize Lakotah’s independence based on Venezuela’s interpretation of what Lakotah is doing.[8]

    [edit] US Government response

The United States Department of State is referring queries on the subject of Lakotah to the United States Department of the Interior, which oversees the Bureau of Indian Affairs.[38]

Gary Garrison of the BIA said that the group’s withdrawal “doesn’t mean anything”. “These are not legitimate tribal governments elected by the people”, he said, but cautioned that “when they begin the process of violating other people’s rights, breaking the law, they’re going to end up like all the other groups that have declared themselves independent - usually getting arrested and being put in jail”.[10]

Opinion on the Federal Government’s expected reaction within the Republic of Lakota leadership is divided; Russell Means has stated that “I don’t expect the federal government to do anything. I don’t believe they even know what to do”[8], but Canupa Gluha Mani has said that “we’ll probably get killed for this”.[22]

i’d assumed this was viral marketing for a ‘green’ energy venture. willing to be corrected. if it’s for serious, these 2 things are certain:

    doesn’t mean anything

we’ll probably get killed for this

    although they seem kinda contradictory…

People always end up getting killed for no good reason though

we’ll probably get killed for this

That may be the future of viral marketing if it hasn’t happened already.
Below is an ancient conspiracy theory showing how “they” used the sovereignty of a 30 member strong tribe to help lay part of the foundation for the world we live in now. The Lakota are sitting on real wealth, mineral and oil wealth, not gambling money. They have a perfect legal right to do what they’re doing but they’re going to have to be vigilant to protect themselves.

So, there seems to be some disagreement here over who or what is the “official” current version of “the movement’s” website. I would like to know why, Hickory, you claim that the Oyate website is indeed “bogus.”

Also, Eric and Hickory, since this is your first time commenting here and we have no previous communications under our belt, I don’t know how to take the authenticity of either of your sourcing, what your slants, biases and… we’ll call them “affiliations” are. I would love to find out though, as I do think this is an excellent topic and worthy of discussion from all angles.
