I would be interested.

Yeah I completely understand, Skip!

This is an amazing resource, free videos of old folk stuff:

http://folkstreams.net/

Smithsonian Folkways is excellent, and lets you listen to lots of free clips:

http://www.folkways.si.edu/index.html

Library of Congress runs the American Folklife center:

http://www.loc.gov/folklife/index.html

Would people be interested in me posting more about like "folk personalities", music and histories that I come across? I haven't had internet access at home for a week or two, so my ability to really dig in and share resources has been slightly dimmed.

Tim (and everyone else), I'd be curious to hear any other true folk gems you've come across in your searching... especially resource- and community-wise. This is a brand new realm for me to explore, and so far I'm finding most discoveries (ie, the newer stuff) seem entirely removed from what I'd consider the soul of true folk music. Just like with most other genres, its like someone hijacked the old costume and has filled it with crap.

With the old stuff, I have no doubt the treasure is plentiful, but as for the new stuff... I'm not as much interested in this artist or that artist (as good as they may be), but rather groups/places/communities where all are encouraged to come together, create, and share songs/topics/ideas/etc without worry about the "this is mine, bitch!" mentality. Back in the day it was probably just called music, 'cause these things were simply assumed.

Paying the bills of course has its place, but I don't think it means this ideal I'm searching for cannot exist. I sort of came back to town in the midst of what you've been doing with this, but so far I've found no better place where the sharing & idea exchanged is encouraged.
