USA $600 Tax Rebates For HDTV?
The big thing everyone here in the US is talking about at this year’s Taxtravaganza 2008 Rebate Event is this magical wonderful “$600 rebate” everyone is supposed to be getting. Whoo! Everyone is so excited. I have absolutely literally zero “evidence” to support what I’m about to say, but I’m 100% convinced that the reason people are getting these rebates is so that there can be liquid money in the consumer market to upgrade everyone to HD high definition television signals. The timing of the digital switchover and this tax rebate are just too good to be true, if you ask me!

I hadn’t thought about it like that before. There’s a voucher program to give people about $40.00 to buy a converter box for your old TV too.

I heard something on NPR the other day that I didn’t quite understand about how it doesn’t make as much sense as it does for the government to buy you a toaster (which is what you’re going to spend your money on: consumer goods) as it does for them to send you the money the toaster would cost, something something but it basically boiled down to this concept I’ve outlined, though they prettied it up and didn’t just come right out and tell you to buy a big screen digital plasma HDTV with Blu-Ray blabbety-blab-ballsack!
