Did You Know? [Facebook]

Did you know that you can’t just delete your Facebook account? You can deactivate it yourself, which leaves you with the option to come back later on, log in as normal and “reactivate” it - which essentially means very little different from just logging out, really. But I guess it keeps you from deleting their most valuable asset: accurate and up-to-date information about yourself and your social network. Information is currency. You have to email them separately from your email address associated with the account at privacy@facebook.com (I think) and request that your account be deleted. I emailed them the other day. I tried to be clear that I wanted my information eliminated from their records. You never really know though, how these tech companies are using your data… for statistical and research purposes, it almost seems that people who want to remove or delete profiles from a system like that are going to be customers you’d want to study so as to prevent other people like them from leaving your system in the future…
