Time Don’t Heal A Broken Gun

They are keeping me *very* busy up here but I’m enjoying it and have learned a hell of a lot in a short time. I have almost no time to really write anything though, so obviously new content here is lagging. I’ve published, at this point, all of the novel REPERMANENT that I have completed. I actually wrote it around a year and a half ago at this point but am looking forward to finishing it when I get back to Baltimore maybe later this summer. Or at least get back to writing it. I’ve got a couple ideas about where it’s going, but most of all when I was writing it, I realized it was a process of discovery. Finding out who these characters are, what they are doing and how their world all fits together. I still don’t totally understand all of it myself. I found, when I was writing it, that it was more like reading a novel than writing one, with the exception that the next word or phrase or line was not waiting for me on the page.

Most of the days here are exactly the same and all run together, which is good. It’s such a focused creative environment that I feel like I won’t have digested everything I’m learning for quite some time. I’ve been thinking a lot about sort of general vague topics, like essence, substance and image. And more broadly about mystery religions, initiatory cults and the role of theatrics in such things. Thinking lots about alchemy and the Renaissance and the origins of modern culture. So much of it is wrapped up in performance traditions that I don’t know where to begin even talking about it yet. Also, axis mundi and “fixing the volatile.” Phrase just sort of float through my awareness and linger there waiting. More when I have time.

I still don’t totally understand all of it myself.

If this helps it reads to me like a Tarot card in some places and like some of the less obscure passages in alchemical texts in others. Especially the kids and the sleeping man. That was where I finally got the connection to Tarot and alchemy.
