Visitors Not Tourists

Now they have to use the word “visitors” and I’ve already begun hearing that term used in commercials. Cape Cod is a big vacation spot, so the bulk of the population here is not native to the region.

Is it because of the war on tourism?

I can see the point the actually. A visitor is someone who is probably more tightly integrated to the community than a tourist. (Assuming that a number of people have summer homes there and so on)
You might think of another case of political correctness, but when you do some research you see that words can make a great difference among people subconsciously, so I don’t think there’s any harm in replacing the word tourist in this case.
