Speaking of using cell phones as mobile payment nodes, how come we also don’t already have a solid system whereby people can trade other types of commodities via their cell phones: things like airtime minutes? I suppose you can send people ringtones and wallpapers and stuff. And then Zune has the whole “squirt” function with sending files from device to device. But I’ve yet to see anybody come in and offer a really comprehensive approach to all of these things in one place. Maybe this is something which, as consumers, it would be bad to have in the hands of one company. But that won’t stop it from happening someday, so in my mind, it makes sense to be in on the winning side and to maybe help determine some of the parameters early in the game than to come to the table late after all the scraps have been given to the dogs.
