“We Can’t Rely On Nature”
I’ve been looking all day for good documentary video from the Depression-era, and came up with this one ten minute film about the Household Finance Corporation. It’s a great little 1935 snapshot of a loan company which catered to small loans, making itself out to be some kind of hero compared to big banks who could only offer bigger types of loans. The writing, acting and presentation are all completely transparent and to the point. It’s a nice study both as propaganda for business practices and simply for dramatic styling and staging.
Any other good Depression-era movies you come across, please link them here. Would especially be into longer documentary format, something akin to BBC style four part series. Don’t know if there’s anything out there like that but there must be…

“Face cream for the ladies” might be my favorite, or the part where they say that soon we’ll have a 300mpg car engine (this is from 1937)

“Sheep have been raised on chemicals from the laboratory!”
This is the kind of thinking we’ve been fed via industrial-owned media outlets for at least 70 years: as though feeding sheep chemicals was some kind of triumph!
