Skills Inventory (Sept. 2008)

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”
— Robert Heinlein

A skills inventory is a great way to make yourself publicly available to others as an expert resource in the things you’re good at and interested in. It’s an open format for individuals and small communities to create a skills bank to facilitate trade inside or alongside the monetary system. For me, the skills inventory has become a reference point to track my progress towards personal and professional goals.

  2. Research, analysis, synthesis, creative problem-solving, coming up with novel approaches and new ideas, acting as a fresh outsider viewpoint, understanding complex systems
  3. Technical theatre, scenic carpentry, scenic painting, run crew/stagehand
  4. Blogging, WordPress, monetization techniques, SEO, marketing, online community building
  5. Teaching, lecturing, technical training, public speaking, curriculum design.

  8. Plant care, gardening, landscaping, organic and conventional techniques
  9. Juggling, three and four-ball, and three pin
  10. Song-writing, singing, playing guitar, street performance.

I am actively interested in and have strong background knowledge in:

  1. Cognitive enhancement techniques, perception & proprioception, ritual & habit, self-mastery
  2. Community development, public spaces & resources, social entrepeneurship, green/sustainable thinking and activism, natural systems
  3. Boxing, chess, strategy, game theory
  4. Advanced software applications, interface and experience design, next-wave and alternative computing paradigms
