Enough is Enough! (And We’re Only Getting Started)
The other day at the upscale natural pet supply store I work at, I noticed a brand of dog food we had in on special order. I forget what the brand name was, but the slogan underneath it was “The Thinking Person’s Pet Food.”
Then, yesterday at Barnes & Noble, I spotted something calling itself “Climate Change Chocolate.”
This kind of marketing is driving me nuts! A lot of these seemingly green sustainable would-be progressive niche products are just the same old B.S. wrapped up in a neat new package to make consumers feel good about themselves. They’re designed to make you feel like you’re changing the world somehow and “acting on your values” just because you bought something at the store. When will it end? I don’t accept that this is the way it has to be, or that companies with these kinds of marketing campaigns are really serving consumer needs…
