International Localism
That’s my new catch-all term for what’s going on right now. John Robb is writing a lot about cascading events in chaotic systems. Seems like his resilient community concept is an attempt to stabilize chaotic systems engulfed in cascading events, by introducing these hard little self-sustaining kernels of human beings simply surviving™. Resilient communities become like spores almost set out and apart in different conditions, developing the same basic approach in totally different outcomes.
Each of these little podularized regions would also be interlinked via technology, so that they’re operating on some kind of non-centralized grid, each an irregular node in an irregular network, sharing information resources and building upon technical advances made by groups living under vastly different circumstances and having to make do as creative beings™.
Reality TV shows as the new model of civic govt, a deeply participatory community-scale theatrical attempt at scientific democracy. Interlinked “hard internet” being completely hooked into fully-wired shipping and hard goods production and distribution centers and networks. What Amazon has been doing. No wonder that guy’s rich enough to want to go to outer spaces. That’s just what we need. That fucking guy in space.
