What’s a Twitter account worth?



If I’m not allowed to delete my Twitter account, then I’m thinking about auctioning off the password. What is such a thing worth in an economy where a complete real human legal identity is only worth about 80 pounds sterling? Who wants to start the bidding? Everything about me must go!

I know MySpace has been aggressive about sending me notifications that old dummy wex accounts I’d set up for the Big Elk persona are now in danger of being erased due to inactivity. And then there are the companies that come in and auto-purchase domain names you allow to lapse because of links which previously pointed to them. The hollow shell of data skins we pass through and leave behind on the web.

    Tired of Twitter that quickly? C’mon! I thought you were having fun with it.

    and re: expired domain names. I’ve been trying to get paulinekilar back with no success. It just kills me reading some of my old comments here; I thought they were pretty good. I know it was a porn site for a while; now it’s just one of those generic search/landing pages.

    I was in contact with somebody who claimed to be able to sell me the domain back. I offered $50 and they countered with $7000. Which I just ignored. So after a week or two they wrote me back and suggested I make another offer. I offered $200. I have heard nary a peep from them since.

    It makes me very sad. I put a lot of work into coming up with that name and it has significant value to me, personally.
