US Romantic: “Invocations” Song Cycle [Videos]

Speaking of surveilling me, try YouTube: where at least the user gets to determine what content derived from their lives is made public…

And don’t miss the perhaps less interesting musical work I’ve been doing under the name “US Romantic” as part of my “American Catharsis” project. It’s a song cycle with dramatic interludes based around the character of Bill Smith, who is a time-traveling folk-singing US President sent back as a last ditch attempt to fix things here in the past.*

The theme is “Patriotic Apocalypse” or “Waking up from the American Dream.”

And as a special bonus, four new songs written in the past 48 hours, the beginning of a sequel to the “Invocations” song cycle. One of these is a 98% true recounting of my next door neighbor’s house getting raided by the cops.

The harp can play three songs: One of sorrow, one of joy, and one of peace. When heard, the song of sorrow inflicts pain, the song of joy causes laughter, and the song of peace brings calmness. The duration that the song is played changes the effect. If the song of peace is played too long, for example, the listener falls asleep, which can ultimately lead to eternal sleep, the equivalent of death.
