Rebellion Against Identity

Via Blustr on Twitter, a more succint way of saying what I said in my last post (which generated excellent comments!):

“The next form of rebellion will be against identity itself.”

The internet facilitates this sort of thinking in a tremendous way, as is. I think I actually have an old podcast from Seattle-era me about this as well… called “breaking the monopoly of identity.”

Paranoiac-critical method is a technique invented by Salvador Dalí which consists of the artist invoking a paranoid state (fear that the self is being manipulated, targeted or controlled by others). The result is a deconstruction of the psychological concept of identity, such that subjectivity becomes the primary aspect of the artwork.
