Opera librettos are authoritatively transcribed in IPA, such as Nico Castel’s volumes[19] and Timothy Cheek’s book Singing in Czech.[20] Opera singers’ ability to read IPA was recently used by the Visual Thesaurus, which employed several opera singers “to make recordings for the 150,000 words and phrases in VT’s lexical database. …for their vocal stamina, attention to the details of enunciation, and most of all, knowledge of IPA.”[21]“
