Does anybody know about CB radio? I’m interested in getting involved in some kind of amateur radio technology, but am not sure where to start. Looks like RadioShack has some intro model for about $60. I could swing that kind of price range, but want to be sure I’m not buying crap (like most RS products!):

My basic operating principle behind all of this radio stuff is wanting to have alternative means of communication in case internet and phone lines are out in emergency situations. Not that I necessarily expect it to happen, but it’s a matter of preparedness. That and it seems cool!
Would especially love a mobile CB radio… if anyone out there has one they’re not using and would like to donate, I can send you a mailing address.

Looks like you can get roughly the same starter level tech for half the price on eBay, as usual
