I propose the symbol of the Mandala to be the central guiding metaphor for computing systems of the “New Reality” era.
In various spiritual traditions, mandalas may be employed for focusing attention of aspirants and adepts; as a spiritual teaching tool; for establishing a sacred space; and as an aid to meditation and trance induction. According to David Fontana, its symbolic nature can help one “to access progressively deeper levels of the unconscious, ultimately assisting the meditator to experience a mystical sense of oneness with the ultimate unity from which the cosmos in all its manifold forms arises.”
Experiencing vast sets of data will require a way for a human being to experience that vastness without having the natural rhythms and patterns of the human mind and nervous system fractured by unnatural electronic systems and alien mathematical patterns and algorithms. We need an organic, creative & associative basis from which to operate, while simultaneously retaining the strength and flexibility of many other diverse ways of thinking and alternative paradigms.
