At the third day I felt like I had ADD. When I woke up the next day I had absolutely no emotions. (I’ve had people with Thyroid problems tell me the same thing has happened to them too.) That cleared up in the evening but since the days events did not register on my emotions I couldn’t get worried about them. When I went to bed I heard a throaty, scratching noise first and then the words “Jun, Jun, Jun, Johnny?”.

At first I was in complete denial about what I had heard. When I couldn’t stand the denial anymore I decided to go to the hospital if it happened again. Since I hate hospitals I got scared and it stopped. Over the next two days I heard a few more things and each time I learned more about the process.

My conclusion is that the vast majority of voices people hear are not voices at all. They’re natural, ambient noises that we are not usually aware of. I think you can hear your blood and other fluids in your ear, brain and spinal column but you, yourself, get in the way of being able to decypher what you’ve just heard.

Your brain/mind (?) protects you from knowing the cachophany of sounds that inhabit your body and world. Basically, the filter gets a hole in it and lets extra stuff in. Your brain hears a sound and tells you it’s a word. Your brain/mind (?) really wants you to believe this and will tell you a very creative story to reinforce this notion.

The thing you have to watch out for is that your brain/mind (?) will go to great lengths to trick you into believing that you’re crazy and hearing voices. It would rather that you be crazy than be fully aware.

What you’re really hearing is burbling noises in your body and traffic noises amplified and distorted. A truck breaks in front of you and it sounds like it’s coming up form behind you. I heard the word “Six” and caught the process in action. I realized that I had not heard that word at all. The awareness alone helps a lot.

(Sorry this is so long but if you’re cultivating voices you may need this.)

There are trickster elements to this too. When I rejected an interpretation that idea never, ever, came to me again. It’s like someone had a clipboard and was checking off how gullible was.

I’m not sure if the emotions involved are the same for everyone but when I was fearful I was more susceptable to this and when I analyzed it I learned something and it went away. I’ve heard voices of encouragement, warning and humor before but these are really different. Basically, if the emotions aren’t right don’t trust it.

Mine was purely chemical. I realized that when I heard these things I heard them with only the right half of my body. I felt a split down my spine and brain. When I got to that point I never heard the voices again. Lucky for me that I could stop taking the medication. My allergist does not rule out the possibility of having to take this medication again though and it’s a good emergency treatment.

Also, if you have any female friends with these or similar issues I experienced the phenomena during my menstrual cycle and exactly two weeks later when I was at the other end of the chemical spectrum.
