After my late-night experiments with multistreaming video matrices, I spent the entire night dreaming that I was editing a large video project, which I had completed satisfactorily by the time I awoke. One of the dreams I had closest to waking, which was chained into that schema had to do with three small animals which I had “acquired” without actually intending to. They came inside a box with something else, birdseed or bedding or something. While they were packed up in the box, they were tiny and artificial looking, but as soon as I took them out, they began wiggling into life, fleshing out and incorporating into normal size and animated activity.
Two of them were ferrets, twins or brothers or something, and they were mostly benign, if not a bit mischievous. The other one was some strange unholy small creature which I would describe as a “devil dog” perhaps, although it was not wholly without a certain cuteness or charm. It did bite my leg at one point and cling to it, but it was probably because it knew I was thinking of what would be the best way to rid myself of these animals. Abandoning them in the forest was my first thought, because I could not afford to feed and care for three new animals with strange needs which I did not fully understand.
Given the fact that I’ve been messing with such weird stuff lately, channeling strange currents and frequencies, urban y traditional shamanism, spiritist animist music, its of little wonder that such entities would interject themselves into my dream awakenings. I attempt now to make peace with them and recognize their power and wisdom in my waking state, while I was not quite able to do so effectively in the Dreaming.

This link could be relevant. Or at least a helpful little information flow to include into your datastreams, I hope.
The doglike creature had an undead quality to it, blue skin, almost like it had been turned inside out. Oddly, it was still cute in a bizarre way though it was horrific
???
=)
Definitely very similar… it also occurs to me that it was VERY much like this thing:
http://www.cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/mm-newpic/
which i only ever heard about today because i was scanning the top searches and “montauk monster” was in the top 100
I was briefly obsessed with that thing when it first showed up, but those new pictures are kind of disappointing. I liked it better when I thought it had a beak.
Weird (but appropriate, I guess) that it’s showing up in the top searches now…
Did I dream the top searches?
Well, I’d say, given your recent work with SEO, trends, memes, the spirit world, shamanism, and everything else, that if it’s possible to develop a link to the collective unconscious via the internet, you’d be one of the first people to do so.
?
Plus, since you had the dream last night, and the search term came up today, perhaps it would be better to say that you predicted (or DIV-ined) the direction that the tides of the collective unconscious would be flowing today? Maybe you tuned into a specific meme/dharma/form that manifested itself today as the Montauk Monster?
I was wondering how that link would show up…. weird.
All I included in the was a href=”everybody”…
I’ve actually been out to Montauk researching the Montauk Project when I was in High School, so I have a certain resonance with the energy of the place maybe? Who the hell knows but I love this kind of open-ended speculation…>>>
hell of a thing to be researching while in high school.
But yeah, it’s fun to build these little stories that explain things, and fit them together and then take them apart. “All dharmas are forms of emptiness…” is something we chant at my temple every week. =)
the link to my site keeps changing back to the old address, leaving off the “/compass”
weird.
Fixing it here, hopefully it sticks this time…
Good link Ian. Also, it took me a long time to figure out that images that came to me of skinned animals or fish being cooked live in oil were symptoms of acid reflux. I was the animal that was being cooked, it was my flesh that was being stripped.
Thanks Julia.
Sounds like something was watching out for you. How did these images come to you?
I’ll just be walking down the street and the animal images flash in my head. The fish images are always dreamt. I don’t know why and I was really happy when I figured out what they meant. I wasn’t real fun to think that I was having this stuff pop up for no reason.
I hear you, that sounds kind of terrifying. I would have thought I had completely lost it. You’d think there’d be a better way for our body to commuincate these kinds of things to us…
If Tim ever develops his universal language, the first thing I want to learn how to communicate with is the cells and organs in my body…
Good idea. I actually hadn’t thought about that. Since our body is always communicating with us it would probably get a kick out of it when we initiated a conversation.
Could it be a honey badger?

Definitely had a really similar quality!
You, know, the term that popped into my head was “familiar spirit” and I did a google search on that and a lot of what popped up was Christian websites warning against them quoting Leviticus that forbids the practice of consulting them.
Interesting.
One thing, though to be aware of is that if it looks undead it may be a not so nice spirit. Because from what I understand entities in the archetypal realm appear as they are in essence, for example a physically beautiful person in normal “mundane” consciousness, may be revealed to have a really ugly spirit in the astral realm.
I once had an out of body experience and visited three people I was living with and one person that was a 50 year old man looked like an angelic blonde haired teenager, One woman looked the same in real life -fat and cherubic, the other who looked like a fashion model in waking life, in the astral realm appeared to be suffering from some disease and had little sores and scabs all over her body.
As I got to know them all better it made sense.
But this little beasty might be good also. Maybe he has a benevolent job that deals with death, kind of like a vulture or something.
Honey badgers are like wolverines that live in Africa. They can eat cobras. The poison knockes them out but they soon recover.
So in a way they live in the realm between death and life. Plus they are scanvengers
You know it might be a wolverine that was caught by a trapper and skinned.
If that’s true I don’t know what that means. But you seem to be channeling mustelids for some reason. You need to be more of a weasel. Hmm.
How can weasels help you? What do weasels have that you need?
Weasel spirit teachers
This is awesome!
I follow your line of thinking on the revelatory nature of seeing things under their “eternal” aspects, etc and it rings true this thing you’re saying about this spirit being some kind of “edge” creature.
Almost like KERBEROS, except much smaller, more mischievous. Definitely a trickster-y undead/nature spirit sort of line of charge here…

Never heard that mustelid term before, but it’s yielding some great results. Will post more details and divinations on the subject.
You know what I should do? Rewatch Beastmaster!!!
Ted, this reminds me of you for some reason

Wow, thanks! I bookmarked it. I draw some stuff kind of like that Guy does. Like family trees of animals and pictures of things evolving over time.
Cool!
Here is a really good article, especially the section on “types of animal guides”
http://www.manataka.org/page291.html
http://funkman.org/animal/mammal/weaselfamily.html
one thing I don’t dig so much about all the “spirit animal” type information I’m seeing online is that they go to lengths to humanize the animal spirits in question, and talk about the lessons those things bring in terms of human community, etc. while this may not be wrong or without value, it seems like a waste of working with an animal spirit: you ought to find out what they know, learn how to think and act like them wholly apart and outside of human conventions and ethics. animals have their own systems of doing things
Yeah, I think the protocol stuff on how to contact tham and work with them etc. is the better info, then the other info, a lot of sites are sappy.
This is just somethingt I happen to be into. The fun part is doing it, as opposed to just reading about it. I think you are on the right track with making noises like the animal and crawling around.
One thing I do is draw the animal and kind of shapeshift while I am drawing. Feel how it feels to be them as I draw their muscles and limbs etc.
Shape is really important. Ferrets are shaped that way to worm their way through tunnels looking for rabbits and stuff. Terriers do similar stuff and have tenacious personalities like ferrets.
Maybe you are to into the spirit world and ferretout information, with boldness and tenacity. I mean it could be a thing that requires the approach of a ferret or a wolverine rather than some other approach. You were more bird oriented before and thats a different skill set than how weasles do things.
That should read “you are to go into the spirit world and ferret out info”
Which what I mean is, that is what you are already doing, but the weasels want to help you.

I think when this kind of practice started (and the people who talk about it today, i would guess, are likely pulling from older traditions), mankind had a much different relationship with nature than we do now. Nature was seen as something greater than us, whereas now, it’s something that we have to protect and nurture.
Given that animals are a kind of representative of nature as a whole, using animal wisdom for the good of a community made sense, since nature was superior to culture for that community. Whether it’s true or not, our culture very much sees nature as an equal or an inferior. So using animals as a way to reconnect our culture with the true greatness of nature seems the “natural” way to go…
It’s a question of a kind of psychological flow toward equilibrium. A higher concentration of nature to culture leads to “humanized” animals bringing wisdom into the community, whereas a higher concentration (in our psyches) of culture to nature, leads to “animalized(?)” animals as a source of natural wisdom, and a way to bring humans out from too much culture back towards nature.
Honestly, I doubt that any of the websites out there on “totem animals” have much to do with traditional approaches to these subjects, but i could be wrong.
Those Yakuts are no joke. Those are real shamans. They aren’t just new age people selling stuff.
I’ve heard some powerful eyewitness accounts from reliable sources.
I think its the cold. If you want to have some serious dreams and OBE stuff sleep out in the cold.
