Some of the new songs I’ve been working on these past few months. Making progress with the actual writing of this stuff, but still polishing the performance aspect of it all.
US ROMANTIC - “INVOCATIONS”
- Cheer Up Lady
- Queen of the Night
- Bandits
- Us or Them
- Interlude
- Invocations
- Stubborn Man
- Fugitive Song
- Rock Me All Night / Noone Saw My Ghost
This is the song cycle I wrote around the plotline of the last president of the United States being sent back in a time machine after an apocalyptic event to warn everybody. There are about five or so more songs in this cycle, along with bits of spoken material and connectors. The plotline isn’t exactly linearly told, of course. (Would you expect any less?) It builds on the “Big Elk” material, but pushes it into a more sci-fi post apocalyptic folk direction. There are lots of references to 9/11, etc embedded within this music, and a sort of looking back nostalgically on a resistance/revolution which failed to actually change anything substantially. And yet hope and love and basic human situations continue throughout the narrative. One of these songs is based on a true event: my neighbor two houses down getting arrested for selling crack.
Am continuing to develop these and I hope to record more finished versions with additional instrumentation in the next few weeks. Enjoy!
