- Why aren’t any cutting edge dancers out there recording full body moving digital scans of their performances and then licensing out the technology to consumers to recreate the experience? Maybe they’re scared of being made obsolete! (Think Dance Dance Revolution that actually teaches you to dance, instead of locking you into this weird four-direction diaper-pad dancestyle of the NintendoWii). Body suits, or simple clothing with strategically placed RFID data points which can entrain user movement in 4D space by using spatial-to-audio sensory substitution. Users can “feel” their way into proper movement patterns by hearing audio signal become more harmonious (or whatever).
- A psi-fi story set in post-modern times wherein the main character discovers that he has the power to impact electromagnetic frequencies. Unfortunately, for him, all that means in a practical sense is that nearby radios will automatically broadcast his thoughts. He is unable to control this gift. Hilarious incongruities ensue.
- Creating custom user-defined functions would be as simple as performing a certain action regularly. The system would learn your habits the same way you developed them, through repetition, customizing its response patterns to harmoniously intersect and support yours in an almost conversational style.
- The Ham radio community is really intense! I had no idea. I’m still studying.
“The conservative blogosphere is all agog over Obama’s advice to Republicans to “stop listening to Rush Limbaugh”. One particular commentary I ran across (on the “Hot Air” website, apparently a conservative political site I’ve never heard of before) was the suggestion to use ham radio to “keep in touch” and “coordinate resistance activities”. While such use of ham radio is not explicitly forbidden, at least in the United States, and there is certainly is a lot of political talk on at least some ham radio bands, there’s at least a historical understanding that the use of amateur radio frequencies for overtly political activity is not consistent with the purpose of the amateur radio service. (Anybody here remember the Student Information Net?)
More practically, our dear conservative friend should be reminded that there are also liberals in the ranks of amateur radio operators, and we will be able to hear you and react accordingly. Remember, encryption is illegal in the amateur service…[...]“
And stuff like this, along with the general initiatory outline of the system of licensing reminds me a whole heck of a lot of the central tenets of Freemasonry, but with different linguistics and window dressing (and I don’t mean that as a put-down):
“I, for one, would like for the amateur service to be free of political considerations that don’t directly relate to the amateur radio service. I know that my politics differ from those of many of my fellows in the ham radio hobby, but I would like to think that we can set aside our political differences in favor of our shared passion for radio, at least whenever we’re in the shack and in the club meeting hall.”
I wonder what the tenor of such conversations are around these technologies in other countries. International law governs worldwide ham communications, with various protocols in place to regulate it. But I wonder what point to point social chatter among distant hams off-air would be. It’s wildly interesting to me that ham technology and culture exist as this totally other system of technologically-mediated communication. It’s almost as if every single user of the internet was running their own server farm and broadcasting system out of their own home.
- I bought a quartz crystal today.
- Looking at what time it is a divinatory act. Try rolling one 12 sided die and one 60 sided die instead of looking at the clock.
- Coming soon: narrated process walkthrus of what I do with the internet, how I do it and how it could be made better through new software and hardware devices.
- Is there a simple freeware software program to teach you about how electricity works? It would be the perfect thing to simulate in a game environment. I’m particularly interested in learning how to repair consumer electronics.
